Has anyone gotten up the courage and stamina to watch all 3 Extended DVD Versions BACK to BACK to BACK!? :wow:
What is the total running time come out to - if someone can at least
take that much time? 🙄

I don't know, but I want to go on a marathon when they release the extended trilogy collection, whenever that is. Does anyone know?

I haven't purchased any of the movies yet because I wanted to wait for it to be completely released with all the bonus material and extended scenes all in one trilogy box set, as opposed to buying them individually and it not feeling like a complete collection.

They already have done, mate. At least, they have here in the UK.

Whwever I get around to buying ROTK (Extended), I will' It will simply consume a Saturday or Sunday.

If you're refering to the basic one that has the three un-extended versions then thats not the one I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the complete extended edition boxset (I'm presuming they'd call it something like that). Right now, as far as I know, theres only one boxset, but it doesn't contain the individual extended versions in it, just the basic original dvd releases. And it doesn't have a fancy looking box, bonus discs, or anything like some trilogies have.

There isn't a box set yet with all three Extended Versions, but each film has a box set of sorts with multiple discs and the complete uncut version of the film.

Total running time for all three films back to back to back is about 12 and a half hours.

As soon as football season's over, I'm going to waste a weekend running them all.

Here in England they're selling a 12 disk box-set of the extended editions of all three films and have been since early December. I went for the gift-sets that came with the Argonaths, Gollum figurine and Minis Tirith whasname box. I went for them because of the extra Gollum disk in Two Towers and the musical score disk in Return of the King.

The total extended playtime for the trilogy is somewhere between 11 and 12 hours I think and no, I havn't done it back to back. I have watched them all though and all the extras disks too.

Thats something. I wonder whats taking them to release it here.

You mean like this?

Pawzy and I have all 3 extended editions... But we have yet to actually manage to watch them all back-to-back-to-back. Someday, though. 😀

I guess, if thats the only one theres going to be.

Is it actually available in stores now? If it is I find it strange that they aren't even advertizing it on tv. They're still running ads for ROTK, so you'd think something like this would happen a few months from now.

And if it is available now, you'd think they'd advertize the "complete" trilogy in it's entirety rather than just a single movie, extended or not.

Ok, I saw it at the stores today, and I would have purchased it, but it says its widescreen format, and I don't have a widescreen tv.

Does anyone know if this extended trilogy is going to be available later in fullscreen format? I'd much rather wait for it than to buy it now, be burdened with those black bars at the top and bottom of the screen (what happens when you watch widescreen movies on a regular telivision), and then feel like a fool for wasting almost a hundred dollars when the fullscreen version comes out.

If no one knows, does anyone at least have links, phone numbers, or know of any place I CAN find out? Local stores don't know any more than I do apparently, nor do the distributors.

Thank you.

My apologies for bumping this thread, but can anyone answer my last post? I'd really appriciate it. ^^

I know this may just be a movie collection but its not just any run-of-the-mill movie, its sure to be a classic, the series already is, and for it being near a hundred dollars to purchase, I would hope you can understand why anyone would want this information if it wasn't already readily available to them.

Everything is going widescreen, but I'm sure theres alot of folks, more than not, that DO NOT have widescreen telivisions.

The only versions I've seen are widescreen. I think it's the only one they'll do.

I put up with it; it was worth it. lol

Yeah, thats what I was guessing, but they released the regular trilogy in fullframe as well as widescreen. You'd think for a collector's item such as this they'd make it available to everyone the way they need it/want it, to completely enjoy it.

No doubt its still worth it, and I do have other movies that are widescreen and it isn't that much of a bother. But this is different. Its the trilogy itself, finally in a real, complete boxset and people without widescreen telivisions, the majority of people all around the world I'd say, are being shortchanged.

Hmm...can you tell me what the exact aspect ratio of the widescreen format is Jim? I've noticed that its less of a problem, those black bars, depending on the ratio. Sometimes the bars aren't so thick and are more easy on the eyes and less distracting.

I guess they figure if someone's a dedicated fan to want the full versions, they'll not be such a tightwad that they won't have a decent teley as well. 😛

Don't quote me, but I think it's 16:9. I don't understand what that shit means though, so I might be wrong. I'm the least technical person in the world.

I spent a weekend watching all three extended versions, and then most of the appendices.

Just wait until later this year, when they put out a limited edition of all three, in one package, with an extra hour on top of each extended version. That's almost 15 hours' worth of movie alone.

It'd be great if they kept doing it. I recall mention from some website a while back that they originally wound up with as much as 7 - 9 hours or more of what they considered "movie-worthy" footage for each movie, prior to editing.

If thats true, then I'm definitely glad I haven't bought anything yet.

But I hope they don't continue this to the point where it gets ridiculous, and they end up having to name it the "Super Duper Special Limited Edition Extra-Extended Motion Picture Trilogy" and then its like $200+. Sheesh. 😛

They're doing an extended extended-edition? 😡

Yes, I've just confirmed it. I saw it on the news just now. Jackson is going to call it the "Ultimate Trilogy", at least for now.

Geez, I wonder if they'll include those three extra special deleted scenes. You know, the ones with Frodo peeing in a Shire pond, Gollum picking his boogers and then eating them, and Sauron having a nervous breakdown while on his tower and throwing a temper tantrum like a little baby whilst talking to himself and being very paranoid about it. "Oh my gawd, oh my gawd, oh my gawd! What am I going to do! The people of Middle Earth are coming to get me! Somebody! HELP! HELP! You down there, help me! For the love of god help me!" 🙄

I sure hope that they DON'T make ANOTHER one after this NEW one.

When you name something "ultimate" its supposed to mean that, damnit! :sowrong:

The widescreen version is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. I hardly even notice the bars, but then again my television is really big...

"Ultimate Edition," BAH! Those motherf*ckers at New Line Cinema can kiss my f*cking ass. They made it seem like the Extended Edition would be the final release, and now this. Who in their right goddamned mind releases THREE versions of the same motherf*cking movie?!? Unless all of the accounts I've read are wrong and they DID film the "scourging of the Shire," (if you've read the books, you'll know what I'm referring to) then I say to hell with it. Like Celtic Emperor said... WTF more are they going to include? All of Frodo and Sam's piss breaks on the trek to Mt. Doom? Bah! :sowrong:

Is this the version with the scene were they show you how sauromon gets killed. I heard its an epic scene between gandolf and sauromon.

That scene is in my extended version that came with the polystone Mias Tirith model. Wormtongue stabs him on top of Orthanc, and then Legolas fires an arrow the height of the tower and kills him. Wormtongue collapses on the roof and Saruman topples over the edge and gets imapled on the spike of a massive cog-wheel from the goblin engineering works. Said wheel then turns round under his weight and Saruman's corpse is borne under the surface of the shitty water.

There is a bit of a confrontation between Gandalf and Saruman just before. Gandalf offers him clemency if he helps them against Sauron and Saruman tells him to fuck himself and unleashes a fireball. Aragorn, Theoden, Gimli, Legolas, Merry and Pippin recoil horrified, but it clears away and Gandalf is calmly sitting on his horse as if to say "got any more where that came from?" He then shatters Saruman's staff and tells him to come down again, right after which Wormtongue murders him.

Or the one where they begin to hallucinate and see the other as a beautiful female hobbit and make passes at eachother due to malnurishment and exhaustion. 🙄

You just KNOW there was a scene like that they cutted out thats worth making the people that already wasted the money on what they thought was the FINAL release feel like they were duped. :sowrong:

Now I'm truely glad I haven't purchased ANY of the movies yet. And when I buy this "Ultimate Edition" it damn well BETTER be the LAST ONE!

You can't get blood from a turnip, and the damn cow has been milked dry! For crying outloud! 😡
