I love that you know those artists. I grew up listening to them all; my mom was so in love with Sam Cooke (and Jackie Wilson!) it wasn't even funny.

Too bad so many people associate Otis with just "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay". He has so many incredible songs and albums......almost all of them with Booker T. and the Mgs!

I got into Ray back in 1985 when the record store I was in was playing his Atlantic 50s recordings. His singing just stunned me....total raw true emotion!
We got to see him live a couple years before he passed.

At our wedding, Bill and I were supposed to have our first dance to You Send Me, but our reception was a pool party (it was an outdoor ceremony and 95 degrees) and we were too busy partying to actually dance

Great topic, Mairead! I grew up with Soul music and remember when a lot of those songs were first released. I may love Rock N' Roll but deep down inside I know my first love is Soul.

Awesome list, Annie! I'm one of very few young people I know (I'm 23) that's into old school soul, so it's nice to see others out there.

If you haven't already done so, you should check out Otis Redding's version of "A Change Is Gonna Come". There's so much emotion in it. I'm still debating whether or not I like it better than Sam Cooke's original. :-D
