For the first time in almost 2 1/2 years,I got to see a movie in a theater.

Michael Shannon was outstanding as General Zod. IMHO,he deserves an Oscar for his performance of Zod. None of the kneel before me stuff like in Superman II. Sure the fight scenes were CGI. You have super powered beings who can move faster than the time it blinks an eye.
Antje Traue made a great version of Faora. Her accent is like music to my ears.

Diane Lane and Kevin Costner were great choices as The Kents.

Amy Smart made a good Lois Lane. Thankfully, they did not make an arrogant/mouthy type Lois Lane for this movie. Russel Crowe was great as Jor-El.

I will not say here my thoughts on the Perry White, and Jenny Olsen characters. I have nothing against the actors who played them,as I think they are great actors. That is all I am saying here. My PM box is open for anyone who wishes to talk about them.

For anyone who remembers the truck stop scene in Superman II,there will be a great surprise in this movie. :laughhard:

I will say the main fight between Superman and Zod surprised me.

8 out of 10 for me.

Yes, loved that truck stop scene this time around, glad you were able to see the movie at the big screen! 🙂
Crowe was back to the character actor I loved from Gladiator and I agree with everything else you mentioned.

I was ok with Perry and Olsen, Hollywood has been changing characters backgrounds lately with superhero movies. I don't think
they needed to do that with these two in particular but I went with it.

Now I can't wait to see what they will do next!

Being General Zod for over a decade here on the TMF, I would definitely have hoped he lived up to your expectations in this movie. He lived up to mine. ♥ I loved how he was a 'villain', yet with purpose. Ambitious, overzealous and cruel, and yet nothing that Zod really did was without a soul. He was an idealist with a thirst for power, but in the end, had he succeeded all that would have happened was the birth of a planet that had been brought to ashes. Of all the villains in fantasy constantly vying for destruction, to me, it was curious that this was a villain who in the end, sought creation, over the fertile soil of humanity.

It makes an otherwise bland battle for peace, more interesting, especially since it forces the main character to make a choice between blood, and family... and the knowledge that they are not always one and the same.

When all is said, the villain is what makes Superman what he was. Without him, there would have been no hero, no ideal to strive toward. For all that Jor-El set out to do, it was Zod that brought it out in his son. As weird as it sounds, Superman had three fathers, and had to learn to lose them all to be the man he had to become.

I loved this movie. I don't get the reviews. It's like they missed out on a terrific film because they were so busy wishing it was one they had already seen decades ago.

I think I might slope off to see this in the next couple of days, not least because I'm actually distantly related to the guy who plays Superman. There's irony, eh GZ?

I dunno how it's gonna strike me, because I was kinda of disappointed and confused by the Brandon Routh version a few years ago, which was a direct sequel somehow, somewhere to the Reeve movies. This is a reboot clean and hard. I will say, I don't like Superman's hairstyle. Where the little lick on his forehead? :dropatear

From what I have heard, this movie is very religious. That is very destructive...

I don't think you will regret seeing this version . This version is the best out of all the Superman movies. I never did see the last one.

Just because some reviewers say it is religious does not make it so. Even if it is,so what? No law against it. Please do not turn this thread into a P&R topic.

I have a feeling Richard Donner was some sort of exec producer or summat. As a result it was a sequel to Superman 2 as if 3 and 4 had never existed (if only...).

But there were continuity errors aplenty. For instance, Lois's son (who we discover to be Superman's son as a result of their "liaison" in 2) displays superhuman strength and a negative reaction on exposure to kryptonite, clearly showing his heritage. But in Superman 2 Clark and Lois only did the nasty after Clark was made human, so that was impossible. I did consider if this was supposed to be the sequel to the Richard Donner Cut of 2 (which I've seen) as they had sex in that one before he became human in the molecule chamber, but at the end of that version Superman destroys the Fortress of Solitude, which is clearly depicted as being both present and fully functional in Returns.

Da feck?

For what it's worth, I think Kevin Spacey was excellent as Lex Luthor, but it's about the only excellent thing about the movie, apart from the chills from hearing the Williams track after all those intervening years. Brandon Routh was excellent as Clark Kent (imitating Chris Reeve's version with a scary aptitude), but as Superman he was both not charismatic enough and too damn skinny.

Also, didn't like the silly 30's costumes on Jimmy Olsen and any female seen in company with Lex Luthor.

I was more excited about this before I found out it is going to be based on TDKR. Personally I hate seeing Batman and Superman in an adversarial tone. They should be friends, they want primarily the same things, and the idea of of Batman winning in a fight is simply preposterous and silly. I really hope they do a good job (and Bale reprises his role) as I LOVE the new Superman flick, and I don't want that taste spoiled.

I have yet to see this movie. My main reason for watching it would be Christopher Meloni, who played Colonel Hardy. I have heard this movie is the best Superman movie out there.
