Cow slaughter backfires for man
Reuters
Wed Oct 26,12:50 PM ET

A man who twice missed while trying to shoot a friend's cow only to accidentally shoot a passer-by in the leg was fined Wednesday for what an Australian court described as a freak accident.

Rudolf Stadler, 61, agreed in April last year to shoot the troublesome cow which belonged to a friend who owns a hobby farm at Caboolture in tropical Queensland state.

Stadler lured the cow to a shed, and then took aim with his rifle. He missed. He took aim a second time, fired and missed again.

The second shot went through the back of the shed, a fence across a paddock and then through the door of a car being driven along a road behind the farm.

The bullet hit 46-year-old Carrie Tunning in the leg, the Brisbane District Court heard. Tunning, a passenger in the car, made a full recovery but Stadler was so distressed by the incident that he handed in his firearms license.

The court fined Stadler A$1,000 and banned him from obtaining another gun license for five years.

The cow was not so lucky, with Stadler eventually finding his mark.

Allow me to enlighten you! I only have a small farm, but I know all about troublesome cows.

They're the ones who knock down fences, and push on gates until they open. Not for any reason known to man. The luscious grass in our fields is much more tasty than the asphalt road outside the pasture. They're the cows standing in the highway in the dead of night.

They also refuse to cooperate when you're trying to herd your cows into a certain area in order to tend to some need. (For example, getting them back into the pasture after they've made "the great escape" through said fence or gate.) Cattle being what they are, they tend to follow the errant cow through the fence/gate/down the highway. The one errant cow is a problem multiplied by the size of your herd, because the one cow will spook all the others into uncooperation as well.

I don't shoot my errant cows... but they're the first ones to go to market!

thanks soleseeker how cool to own a farm

and i still say poor cows lol

I wouldn't want to be within 100 yards of that guy any time he has a loaded gun. 😛

Since no one died or was seriously injured, allow me to make a joke about this incident: The shed should've been bulletproof. 😀
