I would personally feel very sorry to see Max permenantly leave our community, as he's contributed a stupendous amount of time and material to it. I think a very large portion of the trouble we've had is breakdown in communication. With K-man's siggie a lot of people (including myself) didn't know who on earth the character was because they hadn't seen the film, and probably thought he was supporting Nazi philosophy. Well if you know K reasonably well you'd know he couldn't possibly ever do that, as he is himself a member of a group that wouldn't exactly have enjoyed privelledge under Ol' Uncle Adolph.
The main problem I think was people being too ready (and happy) to have a screaming match - and it has to be said that K was probably among them. At times (and he's admitted as much himself and apologised for it) he's been one of the least constructive communicators on the TMF. It's kind of evocative of the discussion we were having about whether a school was right or wrong for banning a girl from the prom for wearing a dress decorated like the CSA Battle Flag. Different symbols mean different things to different people and if your interpretation of it is one of offence, it's probably best to just ignore it. I think personally you give power to the offensive side of such things if you bother to highlight them. I myself think Hitler was the biggest lunatic and murderer we've known in modern times, but something as mundane as an ambiguous picture in K's sig wasn't enough to make me feel offended.
As for the situation with Max, I have sympathy for both he and Myr. The second story I wrote for the tickling fiction forum was changed during the writing because it was originally meant to be a group of 16/17 year olds at school. I should explain in Britain that the universal age of consent is 16, and this is also the age at which someone could do glamour modelling for something like Page 3 of The Sun newspaper, although they'd need parental/guardian's consent to do so. Technically someone of that age could probably do a tickling video here and be within the law.
But I felt it was safer to pitch it at 18, because we tread an unbelievably fine line here. Something completely innocuous and legal can lead to the most horrendous problems later, even if they are not of our making. There are without doubt members of our community who'd enjoy seeing minors being tickled, but can you imagine the consequences of that brush tarring us all? Someone who isn't a member of a minority doesn't automatically see divisions within it. Most vanilla people would automatically assume that we're all the sort of person who would send their 13 year old daughter e-mails asking them if they get horny when they tickle their father. They don't know us individually and don't care to. The spectre of the legal proceedings Myr alluded to hangs over us all the time. That is why we have to be so proactive in preventing any reference to underage material from staying on the boards. A 17 year old being tickled isn't an illegal or immoral situation, even if the situation is sexual; but it is a dangerous one. Like it or not we have to think like lawyers and draw a line that no-one can cross, just to stop ourselves being shafted.
Max, I hope like hell you reconsider your decision mate. It'd be sad to lose you from the online community. I don't think your stories or principles are wrong; from what he posted above I don't think Myr does either. It's about technicalities and keeping an asbestos arsehole is all.
These days any old knobber can knock up a web-site in 5 minutes flat, so I'm sure if you wanted to display the stories you mentioned it wouldn't be in the least difficult. That way you could have the final say over what went up and you'd be the one who dealt with any complaints. I would prefer it if you could do your own thing AND remain here too.
