If you're talking old-school Master of Puppets Metallica, they very much do not.

If you're talking the watered-down corporate stooge version of Metallica, yes they do.

Puppets, Lightning, Kill 'Em All....hell...anything before St. Anger. (no the Load and Reload discs were NOT Metallica, but I liked a good bit of the songs on those, I just acknowledged to myself that they were a different band)

Let's just cross our fingers on this Death Magnetic disc bringing them back to the ways of old.

It's only natural that a band progresses and for Metallica, that progression led to Load and Reload. Those albums may not be thrashy like Master of Puppets, but it is still Metallica.

I understand your point of veiw. I even like a lot of songs on both Load and Reload. But be real...it's the same band members and the cover has the word "Metallica" on it, but com'on...

My point is this. You don't see Slayer or Anthrax or Suicidal "progressing" like Metallica has. When they caught wind of a lot of their old school fanbase abandoning ship due to this "progression" they tried to go back to their roots with St. Anger.

FAIL!

So! I do seriously hope they make a worthy comeback with Death Magnetic.

I've listened to Unforgiven III thus far off the new album. 'Tis a different sound then the other two. But, enjoyable. :redheart:
 
Metallica:

James Hetfield: Great rhythm guitarist and really set a new sound for metal vocals

Kirk Hammett: Great lead guitarist, always liked his tone, learned from Joe Satraini one of the best guitar players today.

Bass: Cliff Burton was the perfect bassist for Metallica, RIP. Jason Newsted was decent.

Drums: Lars Urlich is quite possibly the most overrated drummer in rock history...he sucks, absolutely terrible, he is a pounder and has no tone to his set or cymbals.
 
In order not to be punted into the next stratosphere, I will agree with Crystal that Metallica kicks ass

Nobody probably expects to hear this coming from me but.....


I saw Metallica back in 1998 and thought they were awesome live. Only thing I could've done without was the "unplugged" segment during the encore.

See, I'll dump on any band.........anyone notice how much Jimmy Page resembles the Quaker Oats man now?
