Ok so a lot of you won't even bother reading this thread, sorry

Just had to ask if anyone here was going to see 'tallica at Wembley Stadium tomorrow with; Mastodon, Machine Head and Him?

I'm going and I can't wait this will be the 5th time I've seen them. I'm with a lot of you here that say that their hayday was with Cliff but to see them live is a whole different story and to me a rock band has to cut it live and they sure do, well in my mind anyway 😉

Anyway, enough of me rambling just had to say that I can't wait to be blown away again by the boys and Hetfield shouting out 'come on yer motherfuckers' :couch:

Have a blast today.Have seen James and the boys around 20 or so times.Awesome times.

dont waste your money on wait for the best band ever

UP THE IRONS MAIDEN LIVES FOREVER

I know it was seven years ago now, but I still have a bit of a grudge for the whole Napster thing. Ah well, the glory days of truly free music were great while they lasted. However, I maintain that what I said in regards to them at the time holds equally true today. It'd be a lot easier to dislike Metallica if they weren't so fucking good.

Boo!
The majority of my friends are going. I managed to see "Sad but true" and "Nothing else matters" on the Live Earth thing yesterday.

That counts for something, right?

Although i am told they still put on amazing shows, the sound is completely different now. Hetfield cannot do the vocals anymore and they have nothing in a bassist anymore.

while i dont want to bad mouth metallica too much, i will never see them live again. they arent the same band i grew up with and was inspired by when i was just a 1st year guitar student in 1988. i understand bands need to evolve and cant put out the same album for 20 years (unless they are AC/DC or ZZ top, in which case its acceptable). but in 1996, shortly after their haircut, kirk hammet was being interviewed by a guitar magazine about the negative response to the "load" and "re-load" albums, and he stated matter of factly that " if the fans dont like it, they probably arent musically evolved enough to understand where we are coming from" or something very close to that. i took that to be majorly insulting........i knew exactly what they were playing, scales, chords, etc... i just didnt like it, and in kirk hammet's mind that made people like me musical neanderthals i guess. while i must respect metallica for being one of the key bands to bring heavy metal into the spotlight, i wont support them anymore.........and the napster thing was kind of lame.......just my 2 cents........

Wow some replies!

Nice to get some responses even if some aren't so good!

Ok well to those that think 'tallica are past it or think James' voice can't cut-it live.... sorry to disappoint you who said negative things, to me they fuckin kicked some major big butts last night!

The fans went absolutely manic for them, me included and well behaved, I didn't see any moshing and we were only about 7 rows from the front. The rapport between the guys was great and yep Rob can play his bass.. and well 😉 Hetfield even mentioned Cliff said 'thank God for Cliff' a great touch.

Most of the songs they played were from Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning and the Black album. They also played Justice (the title track) with bangs and pyro's going off for 'One'. So great to hear all the old tracks again and played with much energy my skin on my chest was moving on its own through the double bass drum (think thats what it was) lol.

I think the boys were well chuffed with the response they got, they kept on mentioning it and hearing the fans singing along above the music was awesome.

At the end Lars said that they will be back with a new album and tour next year, you can bet I'll be there again, maybe the album won't be all that good, live they are worth every penny, everyone that I heard talking about it afterwards waiting for the train said it was awesome, even James said 'welcome Metallica fans who know all our lyrics from the ageing rockers'.

Great stuff, but then I suppose I'm biased, it was like coming home to see them again and to be within the 'tallica family.

BTW 'badreligion' I've seen Maiden several times, they rock!

Metallica is one of my favorite bands, along with Machine Head. Metallica better watch out. Have you heard Machine Head's new album? They might steal the show. But, either way I'm sure it will be great.

I can't wait for Metallica's new album as well. Ever since the black album they always come out with something new and weird haha.

Metallica are one of my five favourite bands ever (along with Megadeth, Savatage, Iron Maiden & Iced Earth), and I'll be honest, I was slightly disappointed I didn't get to see more coverage of their Live Earth performance. The BBC's coverage Live Earth was terrible yesterday, they didn't even show the hilarious Spinal Tap "Big Bottom" bass player finale (God bless YouTube!).

I still think Metallica are one of the best bands around. Load was incredibly underrated, there is some great stuff on there (namely King Nothing and one of my favourite songs ever: The Outlaw Torn). St. Anger was bad though, but even it had some bright spots (The Unnamed Feeling). I'm still gonna look forward to the new album, although it won't be Master of Puppets II.

slap'n'ticklee, didn't HIM get booed off stage last night? I heard Valle Valo stormed off stage crying. Frankly I'm surprised that Machine Head were on before HIM, but, what do I know.

Yeah HIM did get booed off the stage, there was a few guys in front of me and through their whole performance just stuck up their middle finger and booed the whole time, it was pretty embarrassing being around them to be honest, if they don't like an act then bugger off and come back when 'tallica starts. I heard they didn't complete their set.

I forgot to say that 'tallica started with Creeping Death one of my absolute fav's of theirs and also played Seek and Destroy a beast, love it! 😉 :cool2:

I've seen the setlist they played last night and created it as an iTunes playlist earlier, and it flowed brilliantly. Awesome set, including Disposable Heroes.

I'm not a fan of booing acts unless it's harmless fun (like when I saw Maiden this year, the crowd booed Bruce Dickinson for not knowing any Welsh...slightly hypocritical I felt seeing as many there probably didn't know any themselves [but I do speak it 🙂], but it was good). HIM have their own audience who I'm sure would have approved their performance, but they didn't happen to overlap with the audience of a Metallica concert.

My only criticism of Metallica is that they haven't played the UK in enough depth since the ReLoad tour. Since then, they've played the odd festival, but nothing too major. They need to do just one last UK tour playing venues outside of London and Donington I reckon.

I'm hoping Metallica does good with their decision to hire Rick Rubin as their producer. The man gave Danzig, The Cult, Slayer and AC/DC a no-bullshit sound that stands on their own. Stripping Metallica's sound down to their raw energy should be a treat. Bob Rock made them too family friendly, even though I did like the black album.

Sadly, this great band jumped the shark when their tour bus jumped the road and it took Cliff with them.

"Metal up your ass!"
