Micro$oft AntiSpyware

Just downloaded the new MS AntiSpyware beta release and let it rummage through my machine (XP Home) for 10 minutes.

It found and removed 3 spyware infections:

CoolWebSearch (3 sigs)
MsOPT (6 sigs)

didn't write down the third one.

It deleted the programs and ripped a bunch of stuff out of the Windows registry (which I would never try to do myself).

I haven't rebooted yet... I'll do that right now.
I'll post a reply here in a few minutes after rebooting.

OK I'm back. Everything seems normal.
Actually a little better than normal.
FireFox now comes up faster.
My machine acts like it just had a lube job.

I'd use it if the incompetent validation process would realize that I DO run Windows XP, and a legal copy too. 😡

There's an option to go ahead with the download without doing the validation thingie.

I did see that, but it annyos me that Microsoft can't see its own OS.😀 I had to disable my Firewall and Antivirus before it accepted XP.😀

Wow heaven forbid if anything that had the microsoft logo attached to it would run smoothly.

I dunno about this. Having Microsoft to take care of spyware is like summoning Mephistopheles to take care of some two-bit Imps infesting your closet.
