As of March 27th, Zuffa Entertainment Inc., parent company of the UFC, are the new owners of PRIDE fighting championship. While the UFC and Pride will remain separate entities and commissioning bodies, it does remove all of the contract crap is removed for fights between the two organizations. Such crap ruined the fight between Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva in 2006.

Fights mentioned during the press conference included:
Couture vs. Fedor
Arlovski vs. Barnett
Shogun Rua vs. Liddell
and others.

Statute of limitations just ran out in the world of MMA. Get ready, this is about to get heavy. :cool2:

Oh yeah

Snail you beat me to the punch on this one... I guess I'll have to shoot for a double leg.

I am sure there will be more post Pro and Cons of this situation but I will let this one stand at

LET'S GET IT ON!

Yes!

I can`t wait! Let`s get these battles booked and on the schedule!

Does this mean Pride is going to adjust their rules to UFC now?

Nope. The owner of Zuffa Entertainment has stated that Pride will stay in Japan and still have the same rules and everything, as will the UFC. What it does mean is that fighters from each organization can now fight each other without contracts getting in the way.

For example, May of last year, Wanderlei Silva, one of Pride's top LHW fighters challenged Chuck Liddell, UFC LHW Champion, for the belt. The fight was supposed to take place in December of last year, but it never happened because Wanderlei's contract with Pride prevented him from fighting in the UFC. Liddell faced Tito Ortiz instead.

This kind of stuff won't happen now. If Wanderlei wanted Chuck, he gets him.

i`m pretty sure there will be universal rules....meaning UFC rules.no more stomps or knees to the head on the ground.

and they are also changing the weight classes to mirror the UFCs, so the LW GP that was to be help in pride this year will either be at 155 or 170

exciting day to be an MMA fan

oh and it can finally happen....FEDOR v CROCOP II

exactly, unified rules.. dana white said if they didnt use these rules, they werent 'real MMA fights' or some shit like that.. but yes, they will be under unified rules.. no knees to a downed opponent, no stomps, no socker kicks.. and the weight classes will now be just as they are in the UFC, which is going to throw the PRIDE LW division off kilter..
