When considering launching a site, several things should be considered and decisions need to be made in a successive order since they are inter-dependent. In your particular case (and probably others considering launching a site), I would recommend you first know the following things:
1. What will the user experience be? -
- Viewing images and videos for free as promotion to a clipstore
- Membership site where membership gives access to all content
- Online shop where items can be purchased
- Online shop where packages can be purchased
- Blogs and articles (and other sweeteners) where interesting material can support the main content
2. How much time are you willing to commit? -
- Processing photos
- Editing videos
- Keeping the store fresh so that returning visitors know new content is in
- Updating with enough frequency so that visitors return frequently
- Handling customer service issues
- Setting up the eCommerce (dependent on your hosting solution)
3. Do you have a realistic assessment of the true costs vs. revenue? -
Some percentage of new site owners actually think they will become financially successful very quickly because everyone will just LOVE their content. This sense is IMHO usually accompanied by a failure to truly assess all costs and contrast them to a realistic revenue model.
So I recommend first assessing why your new offering is likely to succeed, how is it different from the competition and what comparable successes can you point to to predict your likely success and what gives you the sense that those comprables are successful. Not an exact science since no one will open their books and show you how they're doing. But its a strategy.
4. How will you regularly let your market know that you have what they want? -
I've found that although the TMF is likely the most dense grouping of tickle-philes, it is important to market other places as well. I assess this by looking at by Clips4Sale.com admin stats to identify how people get to ShyAndWildTickling.com. Getting my store's name and content samples out there takes time and leads to regular sales.
5. Payment processing -
Some site solutions provide you fully setup ecommerce solutions to take payments in exchange for taking a large chunk of your sales. You can avoid this by making your own site but must then wade throw the waters of confusion to find a payment solution that works for you.
Before you say "Paypal will save me", know this - (1) If Paypal figures out you're selling fetish goods, they'll cancel your Paypal account (that's why I created a sacrificial Paypal account myself) and (2) if a customer is outside the US and does not have a Paypal account and does not have a credit card issued by a US bank, they cannot buy from you via Paypal.
CCBill.com, Verotel.com and others offer membership billing solutions that you can integrate into your website. Before signing up for a membership billing solution, be sure they allow adult content.
