Greetings all. As one of the resident Masters of the Maacbre on the TMF, I felt it was my duty to give my personal recommendations for essential horror movie viewing for this scariest time of the year. So, without further ado, here we go:

Dracula (1931)
Frankenstein (1931)
The Mummy (1932)
Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932)
The Black Cat (1934)
The Raven (1935)
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
The Wolf Man (1941)
House of Wax (1953 version with Vincent Price)
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Horror of Dracula (1958)
House on Haunted Hill (1959 version with Vincent Price)
House of Usher (1960)
The Pit and the Pendulem (1961)
Carnival of Souls (1962)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
The Exorcist (1973)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Suspiria (1977)
Halloween (1978; a MUST for the holiday!)
Friday the 13th (1980)
The Howling (1981; the BEST werewolf film of all time!)
An American Werewolf in London
Evil Dead 1&2 (1982/1987)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Fright Night (1985)
Re-Animator (1985)
Hellraiser (1987)
Pumpkinhead (1988)
Candyman (1993)

Well, that's my short list, anyway. By all means, if anyone has anything esle to recommend, I'd be happy to hear them. Later,
Skully

A good list except "Fright Night."

The only reason why I gave a damn about that movie was because I got to see it in '93 when I was tripping off of the most powerful LSD I had ever gotten(Is this actually a word???) my hands on!

Theater of Blood (1973,Vincent Price.)

A most excellent list.

I agree, totally boss list. And I LOVE how you've chosen the originals, something I LOATHE about Hollyweird these days, the obsession with trying to improve on what was already perfect to begin with, fucking stop it you asshole producers. (As you can see this isn't something I'm passionate about, right? )
May I add? My vote went to Ghost Story and the first Poltergeist.
XOXO

A most excellent list.

Two by Hitchcock.

Psycho (1960)

The Birds (1963)

this is a great list, however, i do believe you're missing one of the most classic and psosibly one of the scariest: the excorcist. just my opinion, anyway. but a great list none the less. i could not have put together anything like that.

A few things that haven't been mentioned yet:

Freaks (1932)
The Beyond (1981)
C.H.U.D. (1984)
Prince Of Darkness (1987)

I know we are talking movies here, but The Twilight Zone marathon is something i look forward to every year.Almost anyone can do blood and guts, but the genius of Rod Serling has seldom if ever been equaled when it comes to sending shivers up your spine.

If you watch all the movies that have been listed. You'll be watching till next halloween!

No, no. Look, you just use your fast forward button to get thru all the naked shit in these movies and then, TA-DAH!! You've watched ALL the flicks in half the time and still can finish your homework, get it? Oh and you're welcome BTW.😀
XOXO

It's not a movie, but the episode of Twilight Zone that always gave me the creeps was "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"
