What can I say about this movie. If Jaime Foxx does not win the Oscar this year it would be erroneous.

Basically digs into the life of Ray Charles Robinson (Shortened his name cause Sugar Ray Robinson was big around the late 40's) and his rise to stardom. I never knew much about Ray Charles besides that he was blind, played the piano and did a Pepsi commercial. This movie was so much more.

Depicts how he got started early on in Seattle and was always getting cheated by promotors taking advantage of his disability when it came payemtn time. That's why later on he ALWAYS required getting paid in $1 bills.

He soon takes off by signing with Atlantic records and Ahmed (who is played by Booger of Revenge of the Nerds). He soon starts to get hooked on heroin and adultery after he had just gotten married. He is hooked on heroin in a way where he doesn't rely on it and it doesn't affect his performances. It really starts to become evident though with his constant body scratching and shaky leg movements.

Then the dillusions of his childhood haunt him. How his mother refused to allow Ray to turn into a cripple and feel sorry for himself. She taught him how to hear and feel things which allowed him never to need a cain or dog as aid. His memory was his best allie at this point. His recollection of the death of his younger brother at a very young age and how he could never forgive himself for what happened to him.

He faces some discrimination as he was banned in the stae of Georgia for not playing to a segragated crowd in the late 50's which eventually awarded him with a ceromony in the 60's and later adopts his song Georgia as the state song.

He finally accepts the fact he needs help and enters rehab for the sake of himself and family. Their he gets closure with is mother and brother and his eyes are finally revealed. He truly did love making music and made it enjoyable by

I HIGHLY recommend watching this. This was Foxx's breakout role and proof that he is one of the up and coming actors of hollywood. To think this guy was doing gigs on In Living Color with Jim Carrey & J Lo back in the day.

Would be nice if he were still alive to see what recognition his life's work is getting once it is really told. What's great about it is that he hides none of his mistakes from the past from drug use, to adultery and his fears. He never ever wanted piuty for the fact he had a disability and that's what I respect the most about him after watching the movie.

He was also a heroin addict, do they address that in the movie? For the record, I adore Ray as an artist and Jamie Foxx as an actor. I've not seen the movie yet...

XOXO

I loved this movie. Foxx was amazing. He does deserve the academy award, and should win it. The problem I've found is that the academy seems to have a mind of its own, and doesnt always pick the winner according to who "should" win an Oscar, be it for best picture, or actor/actress.
The mystery will begin to unravel in less than 24 hours. I will say that while Foxx very well may and should win it, there is another guy named Leo Dicaprio who did a pretty fair job playing an eccentric named Mr Howard Hughes. I dont know if you saw that one. If I were a betting man, I'd bet on Foxx and Ray, simply because his performance was so awesome, and he was a man with sight, who had to portray a blind musician, not an easy thing to do.
So, we'll see what happens tomorrow night. It should be very interesting.

Ray use to be a bus driver. I wonder why they did not include that in the movie.
In the movie Ray, it show's Ray as a young child losing his eyesite. His mother shows him ways to survive.
Maybe this part was fictional?
