From doing various research online about Xbox 2. It have read many posts on forums and article on the xbox 2 that is supposed to be coming soon. And it sounds like to me from what i have been hearing and reading online. There has been rumors that this Next Gen xbox 2 is going to be more of a video game console/entertainment center (with web tv extra hard drive dvd burning etc.....)

And i'm thinking to myself. Do most people need all this ''EXTRA'' stuff on a video game console. When most people in america and in there homes of today have webtv, computers, dvd players and dvd burning software, scanners etc..... already to began with. Is all this ''EXTRA'' stuff on a video game console alone really worth all the hassle of spending the extra money to cash out to buy it just to play video games on?

Agree or Disagree?

Your thoughts?

i totally agree. i want my game system to be just that, a game system. i dont mind it being a dvd player and having online play, but thats all i need. im leaning more toward playstation 3 and im actually considering giving nintendo a chance, as the new stuff they got coming out sounds interesting. i cant wait though, gonna be sweet

What system or systems do you own right now?

I read a rumor at gamespot.com that they were going to come out with two versions of the next Xbox, one "stripped down" version for 299 and one "deluxe" version for 399, presumably with all the added functionality. I think theyre probably too savvy to lost a big chunk of customers by trying to force people to pay a huge premium to get a bunch of extras that they dont want, so it seems like that might be how they handle it.

Although on the other hand that didnt stop sony from cramming that weird proprietary movie format onto the PSP, so who knows what these companies are capable of.

Yeah thats true. I read the same rumor just tonight over at some xbox forum that i was looking through.

But i mean really would you really pay $400 some dollars up front for a video game console with all the bells and whistles on it? When all it's going to do is play video games for you.

well, all the old systems were from years back, but yea, im a collector. I really only play one or two now, but i collect the good ones

i work part time and go to school, my shits paid for, so i can spend my money elsewhere =P hehe

Tight.

Have you played NBA Live 2005 or Espn 2k5? (thoses are the newest ones out so far)

yea, i got espn2k5 the day it came out, its tight..i been playig it online every day almost, tough competition but it's fun as hell

i havent played live, heard it was sweet though

NBA Live 2005 is awesome. But my folks are going away for a few days on either friday or saturday thier going to Cali.

So i might end up renting Espn 2k5 if they have it in. Since i haven't played it yet. :Grrr:

Start my own franchise.

The way I see it, consoles are becoming more and more like PCs. PCs will always blow consoles away in actual performance, but consoles are much cheaper. Consoles are also a lot more user-friendly, so adding all these extra features might be useful to someone with a limited budget (who doesn't have an entertainment center already). From my perspective, I don't like all the extras either, but if what Jeff says is true, creating two versions of the system sounds like a good idea. I don't know how many people will actually buy the "premium" version, but it may have some marketing potential.

Well, I might if I was going to use it to do more than play video games. If I thought I was actually going to get some use out of the tivo function and DVD burning I might prefer to pay an extra hundred dollars on a video console rather than buy an entirely other box to do the same things.
