Well, what I'd thought was just dryness at my father's place while I was visiting has turned into a nasty sinus infection. Besides regularly feeling like I've snorted swimming pool water up my nose, the other notable effect has been the change in voice...

Monday I was Barry White.

Tuesday I was Clint Eastwood (circa "Gran Torino").

Wednesday I downgraded to Harvey Fierstein.

Thursday morning it knocked out my lower register and I sounded strangely like friggin' Winnie the Pooh most of the morning...

And now, it's all broken and I sound like a little old man....

I usually kick this stuff out of my system pretty quickly, but this is getting vicious... I reckon I'm going to have to see the doctor soon, but until then, the ride was pretty interesting -- whose voices can you do when you're sick? 🙂

after i'm over the worst of being sick with a cold/flu, i sound like Vin Diesel. if i spent a lot of time coughing and hacking, and my throat is still raw, i sound like an 80 year old chain smoker.

Sinus infections are pish, I feel your pain sir. Antibiotics and plenty of fluids are the order of the day. You'll know it's getting better when the snot goes from yellow-opaque to green-translucent.

My speciality during sinus infections is Christian Bale's Batman.

I tend to sound like Sam Elliot without the accent, when I'm sick.

I can also pull off a good Keith David when he is speaking in a low tone of voice.

I get that at least 2 X a year and it usually takes a week to 2 to get the voice fully operational again. Green tea helps in addition to what the doc will prescribe....

Ironically enough, I'm writing this from "Paneras", while having green tea! 🙂

I think it's getting better -- I hit the low point yesterday afternoon -- I've been treating the symptoms with Mucinex, Cloraseptic and Ibuprofen, and the illness itself with Fireguardian's Magic Italian Soup (which I apparently know neither how to prepare nor eat :blaugh: ).

Plus, thankfully, an agonizing art project that was eroding my soul is over, so now maybe I can get some sleep, too.

Try flushing your sinuses with salt water. Fill up a nozzle capped water bottle with warm water, add three table spoons of sea salt, and shake well. With your chin to your chest hold your head over a sink basin. Squeeze the solution into each nostril allowing the solution to run out of your nose. This will sting, but stick with it; alternate between nostrils until the solution is finished. Repeat this process twice a day until you feel the pressure moderate.

As far as whom I sound like when my throat is dry…

This guy…(not the bird)

Thanks. I thought about that actually, but I can't stand doing that. My immune system'll kick it out eventually... With very few exceptions, it rocks. 🙂

Hun, I have a thought. You might want to actually get more sleep. a few hour naps here and there don't really help. If you slept it gives your body a chance to recoup and then makes it easier to fight what ever you have. Call me crazy but hey it just might work

Sleeping with a sinus infection sucks. When you wake up, you feel like your head is going to literally explode. Then you spend about a half hour trying to get all that crap out of your sinuses. I feel your pain, Starbucks Yeti. The green tea, usually mixed with honey (not sugar) should help. Other than that, I have no other advice to offer than what's already been given.

Get well, bro.

I know how you feel bro, having gone thru a bout not too long ago, try plenty of rest, the meds, and fluids, and you'll be fine

for the record, when I am sick like that, I can do a mean Clint Eastwood

'you feel lucky, punk?"

For a second there, mate, I thought you'd hit puberty and I was about to congradulate you...

...I can do a wicked Leukaemia impression when I'm sick. The shaved head helps of course.

When I have a head cold, and my sinuses have gone to hell, I can do a mean Truman Capote.

Look at the brightside Yeti, you are still a pretty eater! :jester: As all have said, there is no doubt it sucks the big frenchetta, but FG is right too, IF you can sleep, make it happen. I'm like you in that a 3-4 nap constitutes sleep for me, but letting your body repair itself during solid rest would be beneficial. Take care of yourself bud.

Hoping your feeling better, soup with TLC is just the ticket...

When I lost my voice a couple years ago, I was completely silent for the first day or so, then I turned into Phyllis Diller, and then Scarlett Johansson if she was taking sex-change hormone pills.

Yeah, I was afraid I was going to go the complete Marcel Marceau myself, but I only have trouble with certain words I'll start to say and then have to strain to get them out. I can feel the imflammation's diminished at this point, but the voice'll take some time...

Awwww sorry to hear that CapNMad I hope soon that you feel lots better. I know what you mean, sadly I have been there before too, sinuses suck and not fun when your voice sounds like a bullfrog. Get better real soon and sending best wishes, sending you speedy best wishes to get well and better soon. Sending you lots of hugs. I know naps are not the most fun and not something I enjoy that much either-but Fireguardian is right-naps help a great deal to help the healing process, so try to sneak a nap or two in here and there if you can. Take care and get better soon CapNMad HUGS

Well I had the wonderful opportunity to talk to Moargone last night...and needless to say I about peed my pants ( if I was wearing any ). The first thought in my whacked out Valentine's overloaded brain was... The creepy gay older man with the walker from Family Guy.

Thanks for the well wishes, all!

HERBERT?!?!?!

You're horrible. Starbucks Yetis do NOT sound like Herbert. 😛

Ugh... February sinus infections are the worst. Hope you feel better soon, man.

And I personally tend to sound like Kiefer Sutherland.
