Since Jose Fernandez's death, many of the local teams have honored his memory. Last night, it was the Florida Panthers (NHL). They were playing the New Jersey Devils.
At their season opener, which happened to be the home opener, the team came out for warm-ups in jerseys sporting Fernandez's name and his number (16). After warm-ups, they changed into their regular jerseys.
The game went into overtime and was won by the Panthers when Alexander Barkov redirected a puck into the net. Barkov wears number 16. (Cue the eerie music).
