Hey all, I'm currently looking into importing a 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra Coupe, or if I can stretch to it, an SVT Cobra (Meaning I'll be looking for an early 2001 model with the Teksid engine, not the WAP one...Or a 2002/2003/2004 one with a Cast Iron block instead of the weaker WAP Aluminium one). Engine preferably a V8 as they have alot more Torque which is ideal for Motorway (Highway) use over the 3.8L V6...

Can anyone advise me with regards to which engine would be best for mainly Motorway (Highway) cruising? I'd do around 140 miles a day when I use the car to get to work on the weekends as the London Underground always has maintenance works on weekends so getting to work is a proper nightmare lol.

Have any of you had experiences with the above cars? Bad comments? Good comments? I know they're thirsty engines so I know what I'm getting into, having had a 540i/6 4.4L V8 for a year or so in the past.

Also, what charges would I have to pay over there to import the vehicle? I have liased with Customs here and a freind will sort out the details for me and keep costs low, although being a used vehicle she says the charges will be quite low.

Shipping has already been priced up by myself and will cost nearly nothing as a freind owes me a big favour so will only charge for the Recovery (wrecker) Diesel expenses from Bristol Port to my home in London.

So yeah...your replies would be much appreciated in helping me buy this American V8'd vehicle... 😀

Thanks all!

- Ash.

If you're looking for a fun weekend cruising vehicle, then definitely go for the V8. Preferably the 5.4L if you can. A friend of mine had the V6 version, and it was really kind of terrible, power-wise. The V8 is gonna be kind of crappy as far as fuel economy... But if you're just using it on the weekends that's probably NBD. 🙂

I would strongly advise you to have the vehicle fully inspected by an independent mechanic before purchase. 10 year old cars vary widely in quality, and you don't want to get fooled by some shady auto dealer who slaps a bit of lipstick on a POS car. I don't know what car salesmen are like in Britain, but here in America lots (but not all) of them are shady as Hell.

Finally... This may or may not be relevant to you, depending on your preference, but the 2001 Mustang was available in Ford's "Electric Green," which is one of my ALL TIME favorite car colors. 😀 Behold:

Cheers for that man! I'd heard about Ford's electric green colour but never seen it....though having seen it I might list that as a possible color choice!

Sales men are alike wherever you go, here in London they're just as crafty and sly as in the U.S.A lol.

I'll definately be going for the bigger 5.4L V8...as it is pretty much for highway cruising to/from work (M25 - M4 lol)...fuel economy is NBD no... 🙂

Cheers for your help...!
