California has a statute making noncompetes unenforceable. It can be a legal violation to ask someone to sign. But I wouldn’t sign one, because it’s just not a good idea to sign an agreement you don’t necessarily intend to abide by. Tell him forget it on #3, because it’s both illegal and unreasonable. Yes, you could model for someone else, for all the reasons well stated in earlier responses. Also insist on some ability to have personal use of your work, otherwise, forget it. I would also tell him that as friendly advice, he should know that you would have told him to pound sand but for the fact that you had already worked with him before. So, if he doesn’t change his rules, the only new models he will get are ones who can’t read.
