I probably won't build it myself, but i think I could. I want to know what you guys think I should get. I'd like to use this computer for pretty much everything. Surfing the net, office work, email checking, media editing, website design. But I want it to be built for gaming.

I've heard dual core processors are pretty much necessary for playing the present and future games so I want to get one of those, I want to get at least 2 gigs of ram. probably a 250-500 gig harddrive depending on price. I have no idea what graphics card I should get and am not sure about the rest.

I have 1500 I can spare on this. I can go higher, but I don't want to get too crazy with this comp.

you need a dual processor, at least 200g hard drive maxs out your ram, a dvd burner and and another dvd player. a vga card at least 128 meg. software you need 2003 pro and least xp pro. us need also a couple of jump drivers about 1g a piece. and a 17 - 21" flat screen monitor led. you need to purchase software to edit dvd, pieces and cd labler software and printer that allow you to print on dvd and print pictures from memory card

Are you in the U.S.?

For $1500 you should be able to find a very good puter. Alienware is for the serious gamer but that's like buying a car, lol. I spent a little less than $1000 after rebate at CompUSA for my HP Pavilion 2.8Ghz w/ 2G mem, 250GB HD, NVIDIA7300LE vidcard ( you can get a better card, especially for gaming ) Lightscribe DVD -RW burner. 17" LCD monitor. Nothing great but not bad for the price. Memory is the biggie though. Make sure you have enough slots incase you want to add on or just go big in the begining. Compatitibility later on won't be any good.

I got some good rebates, so look around for them. You may spend some money up front ( the would love for you to forget to send in the rebate coupons ) but overall, they end up fairly cheap.

Do some research and ask some people who are into the line of work you're going to do and ask them what software is good.

For gaming... speed, memory, vid card is a never ending headache, so make sure you don't stay just ahead of them... get way in front. You always wind up saying to yourself, "Ahhh, how much more can they go?". Trust me, it is amazing how much I've spent on trying to stay ahead over the years. I put together my last puter but they aren't really worth the trouble anymore. They're building them to specs now anyway.

Good luck

.

Only problem being with waiting for the quad core is, you'll have to probably wait until next year and you don't know what the asking price for them will be, since you seem to have a budget. With you doing media editing and web design, you'll have to set aside extra money for software and you'll need extra for the monitor as well. Again, like I said in my other post, you'll go nuts trying to stay ahead of the pack.

I really don't want to wait. I suppose I could, but i'd like it now. I'll wait another 6 years until the come out with 16X processors or something.

I'd really like to know what kind of graphics card to get. I have no idea whats are not.
