Nessonite's Love Hina in colour

I found this picture a few days ago and thought I should give a go at colouring it. Brilliant picture from Nessonite, I hope I haven't ruined it too much. :wooha:

I want to colour some more pictures. I have a bit of a collection of stuff that I've done that I might post. Problem is I can't draw myself, I'm can only do colouring, so all my coloured pictures are other peoples works, and I don't want to annoy anybody. Does anyone know what the rules are for colouring other people's stuff?

Not all artists would be willing to let you alter their work without permissin though so it's probably in your best interest to ask first. 😉 Awesome job though and thanks again!
Would it be alright if I told you one tiny thing though? There are a couple tiny white spots that you get when you color in something that has a blurry outline. Just a couple mostly in kitsune's shorts and one in her hair. Just watch for those. 😀 Sorry to nitpick!

Kalamos is feeling "to the point" today! He's right though...if you used layers and photoshop's "Blend If..." layer style it couldmake your job easier. Or just ask for the original PSD 😀

hehe. Thanks a lot for the praise. 😀 . I try and get rid of all the little spots on the pictures when I do them, but I do it as a bitmap and so it takes a long time to clean up the little bits at the end. 🙁 . But thanks again! 😀 . I would love to colour some more of your pics, as long as yopu dont mind. 😀 .

Using bitmaps isn't the optimal way: with layers [either Photoshop, or Paintshop] you can add colours without altering the original BW image.

And besides, it is WAY easier: just "slap on" colour, roughly covering the desired area, then adjust the merging filters so as to show both colour and lines.

It will be like painting over a transparent foil. No need to hunt stray pixels and ruins your eyes over tiny white dots.

Personally, I like PSP over Adobe PS: it is cheaper and I've been using it for ages - but of course any painter will swear by his/her own fav program. Just find something you [and your pc] are comfortable with.

It sounds stupid, but I actually like to stick with simple old paint. I might try out using a more powerful package some time, but so far all of my colourings and edits are done in that.

I hate to be the critic here, but I know my Love Hina, and these colors are all wrong and pasty. Mitsune's (Kitsune) hair is not blue its light brown, the shirt she's wearing is easily recognizable from the series, and it is also brown/tanish with small red stripes, her shorts, also a darker brown, and Naru's outfit is not black and white, its shades of blue I believe.

The only thing you got right was Naru's hair color. That came out good. Since that cat is not from the series, who am I to say what it looks like and what color it is?

Overall, I have a question for you-

Do you even know anything about Love Hina? Because all of these mistakes could have been avoided if you were paying more attention or actually went to look for some pictures from the anime (since the manga is primarily in black and white save for covers and back covers)

The thought and gesture was very nice though, and that stands for something. 🙂

Also, I third the notion, that you should ask an artist before you color anything of theirs whether you know them or not. Its just common courtesy.

It's ok. 🙂 . Thanks for the critisism to be honest. I did have a look around but couldn't really find anything with decent colours to get an idea of how to do the picture. I'm trying it again with the colours you gave me, and looking for some reference material online. Hopefully I will do a better job this time. =P . By the way, do you know anywhere where I can download or get hold of a copy of love hina. I tried to download the first few episodes to see if I like them, and if so I might buy it.

If you do have the time and inclination you can color away with my blessing. I'm afraid if I had done the pic in color I would have gotten the colors wrong as well.Well, not the hair colors since those are on the manga covers and all over the internet. But I've only downloaded I think the first two episodes from Kazaa so I've not seen those outfits in color (or if I did I dont remember them). I just drew from outfits I saw them wearing toward the back of book 5. Good eye, Vlad!

@ Kalamos- She can color her pictures if she wants to. I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here, I just offered to color it to help Bloobie, and nothing else.

@ Ness- Alright then. Although its pointless now.

@ Bloobie- Thats a much better job, but Naru's dress is still off. I could actually take some screen captures from the anime if you want (since I have the series on dvd), but you'd have to wait for that. I'm not in the mood to go shuffling through random episodes right now. And besides, its not that big a deal. If you draw or color from this series again, feel free to talk to me about it, and I'll help you out with references.

To answer your question, no I don't know where you can find a copy if you mean for free as in pirated or bootlegged or something.
