The original post went up at 9:52 PM...and I got the payment and NEST confirmation emails in my mailbox by 9:55 PM.

See you all there! 😀

I just wanted to express a big thank you to Lee for all of her hard work getting the NEST site up and running. She has literally spent hours getting it just right. :smilestar

The check is in the mail. NEST Team should be getting it by the middle of next week.......with all the forms copied and signed and all that stuff.

I've now registered and got the emails from NEST and from PayPal to prove it. 😀

Would it be asking too much to win the grand prize of the raffle again? 😛

alright i'm in dammit!🙂

check's in the mail, flights booked, cuffs packed...errrr ...flights booked....🙂

Same here. Got all that done this morning and just sitting here drumming fingers up and down on the chair arm, and thinking, and yep getting anxious.

As of this morning...

We have 11 confirmed registrations for NEST,
and more folks who are sending them in by mail.

Couple of things about registering - using a NON-IE
browser may give you an error message. We're
working on fixing that. In the mean time, if you get
one, let us know via [email protected], and
we will work with you to make sure that your
registration and payment go through.

As usual, we will be sending out information on
confirming hotel rooms closer to the end of event
registration, so for all those who have registered,
we will be doing that in March (Hopefully this will
avoid people asking repeatedly before then.).

In case you didn't notice, Early-Bird Registration is going
on now until Feb 29th. On March 1st, the price to
attend NEST goes up, so save money and get that
registration in now!

Also, we have some fabulous commemorative items
available this year, black t-shirts with the NEST logo
and really cool NEST2008 Pins as well which are
available at registration.

Can't wait to see you all!

Mail-in registrations!

There is now a link on the front page of:

http://nestgathering.com

for all those people who want to register and pay offline.

Go to the Mail In registration link, save, then fill in and print
out the application and Rules & Waiver, sign and send those
in with your t-shirt, pin and hotel selections to the address
on the application form!

All applications postmarked by Feb 29th will be honored at
the Early Bird rate.

Any questions, just ask!

For the 1st time ever, I may have the chance to attend.....

Decisions, decisions!!!!! My kingdom for a decision 🙂

I´ll start looking for flights. I don´t have money constraints so not being an early bird is ok. Also good news is I would be able to travel on 30th or early 1st so I would like to ask if we can arrange for an extra night at the same hotel or near. Would the team help just with the hotel? 🙂

So far I´m only looking for answers just to see how good things really look. If the oportunity becomes to big to say no...hell...I´ll be there! 😀

Will I have the honor to be the 1st portuguese or someone already beat me ahead? 😉

You can book extra nights at the same hotel if they have a room but you will not recieve the group rate for any extra nights.

Congratulations - I'm sure you'd love it!

Yes, We have already arranged both the Thursday before and the Monday
nights after NEST as group-rate nights, and we absolutely encourage people
who have never been to Philly to stay longer than NEST to get a little sight
seeing in. Philly is a great city, and we have an entire page of things to
do there on the nestgathering.com website.

There are also genuine Philadelphians coming to NEST who will be more than happy to give you ideas on things to do.

🙂

It´s nice to have group-rates. I was asking mainly to know if we could ask the organization to book these extra nights for us.

The rates...well, if I plan on travelling across atlantic I wont be scared with some extra dolars from hotel rates 😉 if i can get the plane on budget this should be the hardest.

By the way if anyone has experience with travelling and wishes to advise on best routes I´ll be glad to listen. So far I know it´s usually best to fly 1st Lisbon to Madrid or Amsterdam and then straight across atlantic...i believe i can get lower costs this way. What I still need to find is where to land in the U.S. and how to get to philly. Any sugestions?

Also, regarding payment, how´s the experience with european members? do they send the money by mail or paypal is really the best option?

Thanks in advance for all the help. Tomorrow i´ll also check with my colleagues to see if I can be away as far as 6th or 7th May. But likely I may have to leave you early on the 5th...lets see.

Only this weekend things sarted looking like i can really go 🙂

Philadelphia does have an international airport and for the last few years NEST has been at a hotel with free shuttle service to and from that airport. So try to fly to a place in Europe with direct flights to Philadelphia.

NEST Hotel

The nestgathering.com website has a hotel page, which will give
a lot of information about the hotel, but not the specific hotel
name or location. Once people have registered and paid the fee,
we will be assisting people with hotel rooms and check-in/out dates,
and will be giving out that hotel information only to valid, confirmed
NEST guests.

Hotel registration will be done differently this year than in years past;
NEST is assigning rooms in our room block to make sure that our group
is together in such a way as to avoid causing issues for other guests
of the hotel, and this has helped us get good rates.

Additionally, by registering, you have promised to keep the location
of the hotel and venue to yourself. Even if another person says that
they are also going, and asks you for that information, we ask you
to direct them to us, either here or a [email protected], so
we can avoid any issues with privacy and security.

International flights and certain domestic flights will have a free shuttle
to the hotel, we will be providing information for people arriving by
other flights and trains, buses, rental cars, etc, on the best ways to
get to the hotel.

I used to book corporate travel, so I can offer you some opinions here. I would recommend taking British Airways from Lisbon to London-Heathrow, and connecting to US Airways from London to Philly. That way you only have one layover. Another good option would be to fly Lufthansa from Lisbon to Frankfurt, Germany, and connecting on United Airlines from Frankfurt to Philly. The less layovers you have, the less of a chance of your luggage getting lost. 🙂 You're probably looking at $700-800 for each ticket.

For all those helping, thanks!!! didn´t want to leave you thinking what am I doing 🙂

I´ll probably register tomorrow. Only thing I still lack by now is paypal and I´ll check tomorrow with a friend in whom I trust.

Today I had work and classes after work so it was a busy day. Still, brighteyes is quite right 🙂 What I found best so far is to conect Lisbon to Paris and then Air France straight to Phily. I did find by now you have an international airport 😉 I´m looking at 600 euros which is also near the 700-800 dolars range.

Also started conversations at work, I´m not likely to be working on monday 5th so this requires some negotiation 😉 So far I have hollidays secured for the whole week before 😛

My only concern now.....looks like I have an exam right on the 5th of May at 18h local time. This is now my only open issue. Tomorrow I need to check with college and see my options. Or else I will ask if we have some finance geeks atending to help me study..we will see! I´ve seen 3 flights to brussels, frankfurt and heathrow leaving late on the 4th...need to check this also. The one to Brussels has a conection to Lisbon arriving at 14h, i could study through the flight.

Well...more or less halfway now 😀 tomorrow is another day and I´ll try to close all open issues.

Sorry for all the details but I think if I´m going there, no pain in starting to reveal something more about myself.

Thanks again to everyone

Just as a reminder, the party on Sunday usually ends about 8,
and then people leave to grab a bite or go back to the hotel,
and some people do indeed head home then. Perhaps we can
get a whiteboard for messages at the hotel, and people who
are leaving at similar times can arrange transportation together.
