Here is the first Evangelion pic I drew. In this one, Rei gets Asuka, maybe for the hell of it, maybe to get her back for that uncomfortable scene in the elevator.

I understand that it looks extremely similar to the last one I posted, but that's because this was my first attempt at drawing these characters, and was sort of a prototype.

The second attatchment is the last picture I did, but I have tried to add a bit of colour to it through photoshop. I know, it looks messy, but colouring never was a strong point of mine.

Hope you like.

I like the pics. I have one suggestion. If you are scanning these drawings in, boost up the gamma if you can so you can get darker outlines. It may be easier to fill in colors that way. Just a suggestion for coloring. You can also select that colored area separate from the rest of the drawing to add details without accidentally messing up the rest of your picture. I hope that's helpful. I enjoyed the pics.

Thanks, beaunanza! 😀 Glad you like them.

Boost the gamma? That's an idea, I didn't think of that. Cheers! 😀 I really should read the instructions for this newfangled scanner. ^_^;;

The colorwork turned out rather well! Unusual texture on the upright post. The splotchy pattern seems to indicate it's iron or stone rather than wood (which is what I originally thought). And the choice of white lines to define Auska's uniform is an interesting one, giving her jumpsuit a sheeny florescent quality. Very cute work on the Auska-tickling, too! I see Rei's being her usual methodical self, observing Auska's reaction with care, while Auska is totally flustered (her usual self too, in other words!) I wouldn't worry about age. The bulid on both of 'em suggests they're well past the age of consent!

Thanks, LBH! 😀 The post in the second picture was the last part I did last night, and I was pretty tired. I probably should have put a bit more into it. I'm glad you originally thought it was wood, though, because that's what I originally intended. ^_^

Thanks again! It's nice to be able to post my own pictures on this site. I've been leeching off this place for years!

Asuka getting it pleases me muchly. I'd worry not about any similarity to the last. Many an artist starting out/trying new characters has had to stick to one "style/situation" until they developed further. *Thumbs up*

I'm not complaining, just kind of making a joke/poking fun how when underage characters are drawn, people say they're 18, like its magic or something and just because they said so they're now magically of age when they still don't look it aren't still, and everyone pretends to go with it.

Nothing changed but the number, in most cases, so its really just a cop out to not feel personally guilty. Why 18? Why not 23, or 30? 😛 Why doesn't anyone every use these ages? They just go with the barely legal limit. I sometimes wonder if this is because they like their subjects as young as possible, but not too young its illegal or immoral (though if it was neither they probably wouldn't care, which would make them pedophiles), or they just have no interest in older subjects.

Interesting, the mentality of some people is.

I'm not refering to anyone here specifically, just the whole "don't worry, I made her 18" comment that people feel obligated to add. You don't "make" a character 18. They either are, or you age progress them and it shows in the picture to the point where it should be obvious they are adults or in their late teens. They aren't magically 18 just because you say so, people. 😛 LOL

Anyways, the coloring is pretty decent. May I suggest outlining this picture again? It will make them seem more solid and fluid. 🙂

I think I might do that, actually. I didn't the first time, partly because it was late and I was tired, and partly because I didn't think I could do it, but I guess if it'll improve the picture, it's worth a try. Thanks for the advice, Vlad. 🙂

Why feel guilty at all? For example, age progression doesn't have to be seen as a means to escape the reality of the age in relation to the actions taking place.

You could just as easily say you want to see what Asuka looks like as an adult, and then draw her as an adult. So long as this isn't a cop out or excuse either, then you're telling the truth and you don't have to feel bad about it.

The fact of the matter is alot of people, including myself, wonder what these characters will be like and look like when they're older, and it's with that in mind that we can age progress them without it feeling contrived. It's very legitimate, and a honest to goodness part of using your imagination with reality.

I think the whole "don't worry, she's 18 in this picture" is a fear adult communities have created themselves. They fear persecution so much it's just a matter of habit to have to spout out with age ranges and such. They're only trying to cover their own ass, and while thats fine, they're drawing too much attention to themselves, and in a way, it makes them look kind of guilty and shameful anyways.

I can see how thats totally necessary with photos, but with artwork, we have the power, ability and imagination to do what is not possible- draw characters older than they really are if we need to. And even then, this need to do it is often debatable depending on the taste of the picture to begin with.

I guess what I'm saying is if you age progress them naturally and out of curiousity for what they would like look FIRST, and not just as a pretext to not feel guilty because they're underage, you won't feel guilty at all when approaching these ideas.

This idea applies to fetish or tickle situations, and to regular, mainstream artwork. 🙂

Ephebophilia is indeed something frowned upon in real life (obviously), but in cartoons I cannot see a hole in drawing nude minors. Every normal person knows they are attractive in an aestethic way. It's not the same as molesting or exploiting. I'm no ephebophiliac for clarification, I like adult women.

Thanks for the comments everyone - I appreciate them! 🙂

As for the whole age thing in anime, it's always been something at the back of my mind. I've never been able to find out whether it's bad or good or neither. On the one hand, they are underage technically, but on the other hand, they're not real and nobody is getting hurt. I've always seen it as a really grey area.

As for what you said Vlad, you hit the nail on the head - I did say it to try and protect myself from the angry mob. 😀 "omg, that girl is not 18 and she is naked? OMGWTFBBQ!???!!!11eleventyone u scuk ololol!1"

We have "Sweet 16" and the japanese feel their children become of age at the age of 14 (the japanese really start pushing their children very early on). This is why alot of anime characters are exactly 14, its usually a coming of age story and they feel 14 is appropriate. I'm not saying they're right or wrong though.

Its a little too soon for most westerner tastes, but thats the age they choose to start putting characters of that age in more mature situations. We don't think of a girl as a young lady until she's 16, and then we don't see her as an adult/woman until 18 and not a fully functional member of society until she's 21 as we believe the experience they need will be given to them over that course of time, whereas the japanese, God bless them, try and cram adulthood into their children very early on thinking it's going to give them a headstart when it could just be stressing them out and causing problems.

Thats most likely what makes drawing anime characters awkward when they're underage, as there are so many and it's hard to take them out of that childish element without making it look indecent. You're forced to deal alot of the time with characters who are still nubiles, and with a fetish, the concern is only magnified as you don't want to be doing something incent and you don't want to feel guilty either.

This is why I made the suggestion I did earlier. It would completely remove that, and it would clearly be a case where age progression is necessary.

Vlad - A lot of things I didn't realise there. I always wondered why '14' was such a popular age in anime. Either way, I've altered my original post now.

Kenny - Thank you! 😀

Hey, I wasn't suggesting you HAD to, just that you shouldn't worry so much. People will know your intentions well enough. It is something to consider though.

don't normally like upperbody, but i like that pic, it was cute, with a good amunt of toplessness. 😀

Cheers for the comments, guys! 😀

I know I didn't have to change it, but I figured it's a good point. For a long time I was mixing up how people feel about these things, getting the wrong ideas, but being able to talk about it has cleared it up. 🙂
