New Ghostbusters trailer and movie recieving backlash

I'll go see it but I fail to see the women power idea though...its almost like they don't think women can't do anything. So they got to keep pushing it. Like when a teenager is telling everyone how grown up they are instead of just acting like it and let others judge by your actions.

It's mainstream F/F.

And lol... There goes this kind of thread again. xD

First, remakes or reboots are rarely as a good as original. Moreover, I have seen this movie promoted as some type of "girl power" movie, which I find very puzzling. Because after watching the trailer, It seems the only major changes this movie made from the original is to change the genders of the ghostsbusters and the secretary. That is not original or creative, but instead its just a gimmick.

I think its more about the fact that the characters are made up of women, who don't typically get cast as the hero type, or if they are - its few and far between. Methinks this is more related to Hollywood not having a lot of parts like this for women as well as them not being paid as much as men versus the actual story being about female power.

I'd say to ticklerguy4u that your sexist rhetoric is not so easily hidden behind the thin veil of wanting opinions or being confused. Its pretty clear that something about strong females intimidates you, which I'm not sure why that is. If you're worried about your nephew growing up in a world where he views women as equals, as multifaceted humans with varying opinions, skills, etc - if you are worried he may possibly understand that if one female says or does something, that it doesn't represent the gender as a whole, then perhaps having a conversation with his parents would help.

The gender switch of the leads was definitely a gimmick to generate buzz and distract people from the fact that major Hollywood studios are completely unoriginal. Luckily, I think Wiig and McKinnon will make this worth watching.
That being said....

Since this thread was just one more outlet for the OP to vent his growing terror of "feminism" (whatever the hell he thinks that means) and its diabolical plans for him, I'll just share my experience.
I've been alive for a while, now. I've seen a number of advances towards equality made by groups that have historically gotten the shaft in our society. None of those advances have every taken anything away from me. I'm still a white, heterosexual, cisgender male, with all the rights and privileges I was born with. Guys like me still run the country, and a lot of the world.
No one else's advances have ever cost me anything, so I don't get where all the fear and anger comes from. It's not a zero-sum game.

As a man, I find this perspective embarrassing. Everything you've said in this thread is wrong and misguided, and a misrepresentation of everything - except the "meninist" movement, which is full of guys like you who are terrified of women.

And don't say you're not terrified of women - you think they're trying to destroy you and everyone like you.
To be fair, pointing out an alleged conspiracy against men by feminists doesn't necessarily translate to a fear of women, in my opinion. Most feminists I've known harbor varying degrees of resentment towards all men. Some of them are downright nasty about it. But feminists are fringe these days, thankfully. Few take them seriously. Most women today refuse the propaganda that demeans women who willingly choose to fill a more traditional role rather than to spend their lives proving they are just as skilled, talented, or qualified as leaders as men.

As for the new Ghostbusters movie, it sounds to me like it borders on being one of those hideous social statement movies, which I abhor and for which I refuse to waste my money. I'll wait till it comes out on HBO, Cinnemax, or Showtime, and see if it qualifies.

First of all. Meninist is a mock term for feminist. Its not real. I think you are confusing acknowledgement with fear. I think a person that doesn't acknowledge it is more afraid.

A female wants to be strong be strong...don't care. i just think its they shouldn't act as if its a big celebration. I asked opinions I got opinions. As for my nephew I will make sure that he sees women they way women want to be seen...strong and celebrating when they make an accomplishment of feeding themselves or building a house. Its funny how not feeling sorry for women is making me out to be the bad guy and accused of fearing women. When in actuality I see women as equal bad and good. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe you all are right and I will just laugh off anything a woman says about how empowered they are...you just convinced me. So with that lets just forget I even mentioned it.

Maybe its hard to express words on a computer but i am not mad. I just acknowledge that this is stupid. the idea that its a all female cast and production... I mean really? unbelievable..I guess I can't get my head wrapped around why most women now a days seem to believe that they are incapable of doing things without expecting everyone to give them cake for a job well done. As I said before, maybe I am wrong, and I should praise them every time they accomplish something men have done for years. just seem condescending to me. Even Judge Judy said that she became a good judge because of who she is not what she was..but I guess that makes her afraid of her womanhood.

exactly my point. there was no need for it other then to toot their own horn. Has nothing to do with original movie. Three of the guys were friends from SNL..Harold Raimis and Dan Aykroyd were the screenwriters so they decided to act in it as well. it wasn't like they were like we are all men...chest pounding.

thank you.

"Hey look, a massive female production which isn't the norm in major budgeted films created a whole bunch of credits for women in the industry which helps with the meritocracy, and if the movie makes a lot of money it is an even bigger statement about females in the totality of film. Cool."

"This bothers me for some reason. Women should build houses and feed themselves. Most of what I'm saying really makes little sense."

This is Les Miserables, TMF style. Okay, let me just concede. I now believe that all women (all over the world including babies) will only make your life miserable and they are personally after you. You got my 100% vote!

The last time I concluded a post on a similar thread you did, I said: "Your enemy is yourself," and you said "YES."

Next time, this kind of thread will appear again for sure. We'll help a bit with the scratching until we drop. 🙂

I had seen the trailer for it and I don't think I will go and see it. The original I loved, I had seen it in theaters when it first came out the sequel was ok but sorry to say that the reboot I don't think I will see it

That's impossible. These women are weak minded and can't do anything. IF they do...it should be celebrated. Yay....they made a movie. Here's some cake.:headpat:

I can't profess to know nearly as much as you claim to about what women really think, but I think it's a safe bet that they really don't want your praise.
It might serve them right if you just ignored them. Let them have their stupid feelings of pride and empowerment, and don't let them know that you already know everything about them.
Yeah, that'll fix 'em.

Yeah, THEY'RE the weak minded ones.

shhhh, women don't respect men that kiss their asses. that's good advice. No need to be the white knight.

Well, whatever strategy you're using now can't be that effective, if the simple existence of a gimmicky remake of a popular 80's movie is making you hyperventilate over the evil womenz coming to get you.....

I told you I'm proud of these women. They did something that no women have done in years. They made a movie all by themselves. They should be proud. lol
Actually the only thing that bothers me is that is was made an issue....but not by me. At first I was taking it seriously because I thought women had more to offer but i see now that we all should see them as nothing to fear (as you say) or taken seriously. Then guys wonder why women on here think guys are a joke. Man-power!!!:woman:

Are you ....impaired in some way we're all not aware of? There seems to be a serious divide between what people are saying and what you are interpreting them to be saying. I can't really say I have any concerns about how the women of the TMF view the men, as I don't have a personal stake in the matter. You, however, seem to start more than a few, "Ladies..(insert question here)" threads...almost like you're concerned about their opinion.

I don't get how someone thinks one movie or one opinion represents the whole. God forbid someone mistake ticklerguy as representing the entire male species. Fortunately, we know better in that most men typically aren't so prejudiced.

It's a two-edged sword, I suppose. Clinging to a cynical, self-pitying, adversarial, persecuted mind set when it comes to relationships means you're bound for failure, but at least you can console yourself that you knew it was going to happen.

I have to say, it seems unfortunate to me that the message of female empowerment has been attached to this particular film. Cos certainly if the trailer is anything to go by, it ain’t gonna be received well. Obviously, a trailer isn’t always an accurate gauge for the quality of a movie… However, if it’s a comedy, and the trailer promotes the film’s comedic aspects above everything else, and the jokes in the trailer aren’t very good (and I would argue that all three apply here), it doesn’t exactly fill one with confidence. It’s like when the Dumb and Dumber sequel came out a while ago… Even though I was a huge fan of the original, I knew once I saw that trailer, there was no need for me to go and see the film. I think comedy is a bit more cut-and-dried than drama in that respect: it either works or it doesn’t. And, at the risk of sounding like a comedy snob, the jokes in this Ghostbusters trailer seemed a bit lowest common denominator.

And when you throw into the mix the fact that Ghostbusters is such a popular franchise, and how dear the original film is to people’s hearts… Hmm. I’m not saying I think it will be a disaster, necessarily, but the signs aren’t good.

You can't even write this out in a coherent way. No, seriously. No tee hee haha. No fooling. You created this thread. You're the one making the issue out of it. And you continue to. Bang on and on and try to thinly veil your blatant incomprehensible sex ism and be all sly.

You know what women don't respect? And for this, I actually can put most of the population as being creed put by; weird conspiracy victim creepy beta behavior. For serious. I don't know if you're watching age creep up upon you and you're kicking rocks because no women want to touch a nice guy like you, or whatever the case may be, but you're in desperate need of some self reflection.

You should be doing that rather than pissing your pants because of a Melissa McCarthy movie. >=)
