New video clip format for MTP

For a long time I have been trying to break away from Real Media, RM, as a format for video clips because I know WEBTV doesn't use it and it frankly gives a lot of error messages lately. But up until recently it was the only really efficient compression system that I knew enough about to be able to use effectively.

A couple of months ago a customer (who's email address I cannot locate and who I'd like to publically thank!) wrote to me, unsolicited, with some advice on how I might transfer to Windows Media Video, WMV. I didn't have a chance to do anything about it right away, but this week I finally did and I think I got some pretty great results.

The current clip for Mummy Tickling Starring Shannon is done in this format. It's a little larger than my usual one, but this is the 21'st century, get a cable modem for christs sake! 😉 I think the quality of the clip is really solid, and I'll be curious to get feedback, so if you have an opinion please express it 🙂

I just DLed the clip and compared it to the last several. Aside from a slight difference in clarity on the ads, the actual video footage looks just as good as the RM clips. I also liked the fact that WMV has a larger screen to view the clip on. A bigger picture is always better, isn't it? I think this is a good way to go. I say, if it's better for you, run with it.

Now, if only there was footage of YOU getting a pie in the face!!! 😀

Keep this format

Just downloaded the clip and can say the following:
0. Duration is 2:18 min from which 32 secs are spent in advertisement.
1. Nice window size. A little bigger than before.
2. Nice image quality and resolution while playing in original size.
3. Decent resolution when playing in full screen mode.
4. File size is still manageable.
5. Mostly tummy tickling with one section of foot tickling and another of nose tickling. 🙂

I can say that overall I would rather keep this format than the RealMedia.

Keep it up man. You are doing a great job.

well the file size (any file size) is managable ... and i agree with you - everyone get a cable modem! 🙂

the quality - while not being a massicve jump... sure was great. the size is a better thing and the quality of the clip was class!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Interestingly, the size of the viewing screen is actually the same as all my other ones, I think WMV just keeps its resolution better if you expand it.

Jeff...I may be the only one with a problem here, so I hope you respond.

I d/l'd the clip, but when I played it, all I got was a blank, black screen. The counter kept up, like it was reading a clip, but the screen was black with no sound. Did I do something wrong?

cable modems

As far as the numerous suggestions to get a cable modem, I have to say this, some of us way out in the sticks in the nauwht(Vt. drawl), cable isin't available! So it's either phone or satellite(tried it[satellite], service was lousy, took it out).🙁

Dave2112, I had the same problem. Then I played the clip while I was online and the media player automatically started to download a codec. The clip played beautifully after that.

Hey, all I can say is that when you work in that type of environment, you actually run into these types of people on a daily basis. Only then can you truly appreciate the movie for what it is. Sometimes quoting that movie allows me to maintain my sanity.

Well said. I didn't mean to come off as bitterly aggressive there (although I'm sure I did, lol), but I guess I just get tired of hearing people quote from that movie. Your reasons for doing so are more than understandable to me now. There was really no need to justify something so trivial, but thanks for doing so.
