The New York Knicks fired coach Jeff Hornacek this morning, following a 29-53 season.

While the Knicks certainly underachieved in 2017-2018.

The team's disappointing record cannot be blamed completely on Hornacek.

As those who follow the NBA and the Knicks are aware.

The Knicks star player, Kristaps Prozingas, was injured for half of the season with a torn ACL.

Prozingas is supposed to be sidelined for half of the 2018-2019 season as well, as he recovers from his injury.

Considering Prpzingas' injury, it is not clear whether the Knicks would have made the playoffs as one of the final seeds or not.

It will be interesting to see who the Knicks hire to replace Hornacek.

Thoughts on Horrnacek's dismissal?

Hornacek's dismissal was not a surprise. The Knicks have been a team in turmoil for years, from Phil Jackson's stint as general manager to the whole Carmelo, should we keep him, trade him debacle.

Granted Prozingis' injury was devastating to their chances to make the playoffs this year, but the Knicks have not been a good team for quite a few years. Even when Prozingis comes back, they are going to need to surround him with playmakers to contend. That is what they should have been doing when Carmelo was there, they would have been formidable, IMHO.

It's official David Fizdale is the new Head Coach of the New York Knicks. He is the former Head Coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. He got the Grizzlies into the playoffs last years with a 43-39. But Memphis lost in 6 games in the 1st round to the Houston Rockets. I think the Fizdale hiring, could be a step in the right direction. We will have to now have to wait and see.

It seems as though Kristaps Prozingas is going to be out all of 2018-2019 recovering from his torn ACL surgery. If that happens, the Knicks won't make much progress next year. Prozingas is young, though. If he returns in 2019-2020, and the Knicks get some strong draft picks, they could and should move in the right direction toward playoff contention.
