Gotcha. Well, I'd be impressed if we could find very many celebrities who DON'T think they're amazing and AREN'T self-righteous. But as I mentioned, Moore and Bono are different from a lot of those celebrities insofar as they ARE influential in palpable ways. Whether they're influential in a positive or negative way is certainly up for debate, but Moore has certainly had more influence on national political conversation, and Bono on international policy discussions, than any of the celebrities I mentioned, or Rosie O'Donnell or Tom Selleck or the Dixie Chicks or Charlie Daniels or Eddie Vedder or {insert name here}.

Or, for that matter, Maureen Dowd or Anne Coulter.

I'll agree, meanwhile, that Moore is a much much much much much much much less talented speaker and writer than he is a filmmaker. (I certainly didn't suggest that he doesn't mouth off about politics... that would be crazy talk!) However good or bad you think Moore is at filmmaking, at speaking and writing he's certainly worse.

Do these kinds of threads ever change anyone's thinking, or do they just start long pointless arguments that amount to nothing more than "Bush is Good, Bush is Bad?" Who CARES ???

Really! Political and religious threads are a detriment to a fun easy-going tickle site like this. I get dragged into some of the other forums discussions on these topics and I will not be on this site. This site has been nothing but easy-going fun and LAUGHS! I would like to see it kept that way. 😀

Ya know, Norm... here's the thing, my friend. It isn't about having a "quesy political stomach." Quite the opposite. It's about the fact that some of the people on this site, myself included, have political jobs or politically oriented jobs. It's hard to get a break the daily grind, no matter where you turn. I questioned whether this site really needed a political side, and then I dropped it.

But what it seems you are failing to do is accept things as they are. Yes, its unfortunate when people can't escape political mumbo jumbo as it were, offline or off. Thats a really bad rap and deal and I'm sorry to hear it. But we can't make exceptions for people like you, with respect. There are actually people that don't get enough politics in their daily lives and thats why they express them online, or, because of politics that affect them, they are more inclined to speak about it. Like I told you before, and you responded to, what type of a site this is does not matter. The fact that room exists and is set aside and is allowed for general discussions of varying natures makes this site greater than it would be otherwise. It allows those people to speak their minds, where for whatever reason, they may not be allowed to or cannot otherwise, or, choose not to.

There are people that are in the opposite situation as you are in. What are we to do for them? Shut them up because of your choice of profession?

No one is dismissing the very legitimate and reasonable statements you are making, but based on the principle of free speech being extended to even an internet site, and a fetish one no less, things are as they are with equally reasonable and legimate reasons.

You are not the only one whose fet up wendynpeter, but you seem to be the only one who had not/could not accept this and just avoid it or find some alternative means of enjoying the general discussion facet of this site. Because of that, you were/are alone on this.

You say you have dropped it, but have you really? I know that may seem like a trick question when other people continue to respond to you, so I'll give you that much. 🙂

These threads are really wasted space. The smartest thing you'll read is somebody is an asshole, and somebody else is a piece of shit.

If you wanna have a cheap laugh, do your homework first.
That is, try and identify the forum's most argumentative users.
Second, track down their likes and dislikes.
Finally, throw jabs at whomever happens to be liked by the least vicious users.

As a quick rundown, from this thread you can infer that wendynpeter and goodieluver both dislike Moore and like Bush, and they're quite vocal about it. Tough nuts to crack.
Don't bother with Vlad [unless you like being told you don't understand his point].
You can safely fight with Wade and Val, since they won't call you names, and the worst they'll do is quoting statistics.
You won't even risk being banned or anything, since Val is way too respectful of others to consider that, unless you find ways to personally threaten users with physical harm.

I think the best way to approach things like this are on a case by case basis, not an assumption of how people will react or have reacted before. You can't always gauge a person's mentality like that. What sets people off and what does not is hard to say sometimes. But as long as its respectful, which most of the time it is, then there shouldn't be a problem with it.

Its the people that cannot handle it or don't want to that shouldn't be a part of it. This isn't about stalking or attacking other people, its about respectfully agreeing or disagreeing with someone else. For what its worth, I've seen this site have its political tiffs, and in the end, I'd say some 80% of the time, people walk away from them either enriched somehow, glad they had the conversation, or walk away respecting somebody else more even if they don't agree with them.

Maybe thats just how I've seen it transpire, but its good. The value of a good discussion far outways the potential for a flame. And even if it does go there, it can be redirected and rerouted as needed. 🙂

I don't feel I was arguing or overtalking anyone. If I wanted to do that I will have and it would have been more clear. This was not an instance where I did any of that or pulled out any stops. Its actually everyone else who supported my initial statements. It is you guys, in fact, who did most of the work, I just filled it in with the technical words and whatsus.

And I just repeated myself to get him to again say he's withdrawn his complaint. And I only did that to just to reach a for-sure conclusion for myself. Because the conversation continued anyway, even without me, despite the fact he said that. I was just making sure, and I hope that didn't offend him.

Having those topics anywhere on these sites have a bad effect in my opinion. They are available on TMF and I mistakenly dragged myself into it but I'm done with TMF's political/religious debate threads. They draw negativity out of the members, (including myself) and cause tense relationships within the membership.

I came to this thread because I appreciate Michael Moore, the same way I appreciated John Lennon but I am not going to speak for the millions who hold the same opinion I do . . .. not on a site designed for sharing my tickling hobby. Enough of this, I'm heading back over to see a few cuties getting their little feet tickled 😀 😀 😀
