Another wild finish on TNF. Sure looked like the Rams would pull that one out.

Vikings over the Giants 28-10.

Saints 31 Bucs 23.

NE over Washington 33-7. After seeing most of that game I feel for the Redskins defense. They hung in as long as they could but the offense could not stop shooting themselves in the foot.

The Bills stay just one game behind NE with a 14-7 win over the Titans.

The Eagles pummel the hapless Jets 31-6. That is a bad football team.

The Bengals (or is it the Bungles) go to 0-5 with a 26-23 loss to Arizona.

Just in, Baltimore beat the Steelers 26-23 in OT. Pittsburgh starts the season 1 and 4. I wonder if Tomlin is packing his bags.

In London the Raiders pull out a 24-21 win over Chicago.

Texans 53-32 over Atlanta. Will Dan Quinn last the season?

No Minshew Magic today. Panthers 34 Jags 27.

The first half was the best half of defensive play that my Redskins have shown all season. But the offense was so inept, the defense couldn't keep the Patriots in check any longer.

The expectation by many is that Jay Gruden is out this week, but we'll see. I like Jay as a person, but he's just not a head coach. Period. I also think that despite the strong defensive play in the first half, Greg Manusky should go as well. He's been a liability for a while. If it's not this week, a loss to Miami next week will 100% do it. Nobody will survive if they lose to Miami.

It came down very early today that Jay Gruden has been fired as coach of the Washington Redskins.

In other news, Patrick Mahomes is human and not a robot as the Chiefs fall to the Colts. But give Indy credit they controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Surprising (at least to me) that the Chargers lost to the Broncos to give Denver its first win of the season, and the Raiders top the Bears in London.

With Gruden out in Washington, the hot seat watch shifts focus to Dan Quinn in Atlanta. Probably a little less hot, is Tomlin's time in Pittsburgh is waning? Granted, without Big Ben, you really can't make an objective decision.

Speaking of the Steelers, scary situation when Mason Rudolph was sandwiched on a play and was knocked unconscious before he hit the turf. Glad to see he was able to walk off with assistance after the cart brought out to take him off malfunctioned.

In tonight's game, I'll take the undefeated 49ers at home over Mayfield and the Browns.

Not surprised in the least that they went ahead and fire Jay Gruden now. If you're going with a interim coach, you might as well have his first game be against the Dolphins. I'm hearing Bill Callahan is the Interim coach. The bottom line is, Jay Gruden didn't have it. He didn't have that "it" factor that someone like Sean McVay, who the Redskins let walk, has that's gonna bring the absolute best out of his players. Jay Grudens teams were often unprepared, uninspired, and undisciplined. And his one playoff year in 2015 was largely due to the rest of the division being really weak. In 2015, The Cowboys lost Romo, The Chip Kelly Eagles were figured out which resulted in Kelly getting fired before 2015 even ended, and the Giants hung around for a little bit but in the end were mediocre at best. And the following season in a "Win and your in" scenario in week 17 at home, the Redskins came in unmotivated and unprepared.

After week one this season, for Redskins WR DeSean Jackson said that knowing the Redskins lockerroom, when they were up 20-7 going into halftime, they probably thought they'd won the game already. So he wasn't very concerned about being down by 13. The Eagles then went on to score 25 unanswered points. That's on the coaching in my view.

So now there's gonna be tons of speculation on who the next head coach will be. At this point, who the heck would want the job outside of someone who's already on staff? And even they might not want it.

I hope so cuz that Baker Mayfield is rly getting on my nut! I get he's talented but he's not this awesome guy that he tries too make himself out too best just very cocky

Here are some of my main takeaways on the rest of Week 5

:The Patriots are still the Patriots.
:The Jets are still a buttfumble of a franchise.
:I think Cam Newtons job isn't guaranteed anymore.
:The Falcons have major defensive issues.
:Teddy Bridgewater could be the successor to Drew Bress. I don't think the Saints will bench Bress when he's healthy. Even if they keep winning without him.
:Kirk Cousins bounced back, but still has yet to prove he can play against good/great teams.
:Jon Gruden has the Raiders on the right track, and it must have felt good for him to win againt Khalil Mack.
:Watch out for the Bills.
:The Cowboys benefited from paying three weak teams to start the season, and now they're coming back down to earth after playing two teams that are elite.
:The Colts defense is one to really watch.
:And as the 49ers/Browns game wraps up now, 1. the 49ers are for real. 2. I said this the other week about the Browns, they're certainly better and they have reasons to be optimistic, but they're not ready for primetime yet. They're certainly not Superbowl ready like many pundits thought a couple months ago.

Let me start by making it clear I'm taking nothing away from the Colts. That said there's no doubt Mahomes' bum ankle was a significant factor in this loss. Couple that with poor play by the offensive line, no running game and a slew of bone head penalties and I'm surprised they only lost by 6 points.

Things don't get any easier this week with the Texans coming to Arrowhead Sunday. The Chiefs need to fix the issues that can be fixed in a hurry if they want to avoid another loss this week.

In other news the Packers-Cowboys game was not as close as the score might suggest. That Green Bay defense is fierce and they will also be in KC in a few weeks.

I don't think the Green Bay/Dallas score was a surprise. As BBGuy5240 said, they started the season by playing three weak teams and have lost their last two playing teams that weren't pushovers.

I think Indy's success against the Chiefs was the play on both the offensive and defensive lines. When you control the line of scrimmage and can gain 5-7 yards a carry, why put the ball in the air? It also didn't help that Mahomes ankle got stepped on TWICE because the O-line got pushed back into him. The last sack in the 4th, Mahomes was backing up instead of turning and running away from the pressure because his ankle wouldn't let him.

As for the Browns, yes they are much improved from years past. But anointing them as AFC Super Bowl favorites was way too premature.

What is really surprising to me this year is the parity in the NFL. There are four winless teams over the first quarter of the season. What is shocking is that three games in week 5 had spreads of 10+ points (Phi/NYJ-14, NE/Wash-15.5, Ind/KC-10.5). It is very unusual for a spread to be more than 7, regardless of who is playing, it is (almost) unheard of to have an NFL team that is a 2 touchdown underdog, it just doesn't happen.

So,is it lack of talent, or lack of good coaching prospects? My guess would be coaching prospects. For every Sean McVey, there are three or four Jay Grudens in the league.

It's fair to say that Mahomes was limited with thank ankle. But the Colts offense ran it down their throat, and even before the ankle, outside of that amazing TD throw to Pringle, the Chiefs offense looked off. For now though, I don't think there's any reason for Chiefs fans to be concerned.

I'm hoping my Redskins get their first win this coming week. Because as of now, I don't know where their wins are coming after Miami. Maybe the Jets, but puts those odds a little lower now that Sam Darnold is back. And maybe the Cowboys in week 17 if they have a playoff spot locked up and their starters rest. I can deal with 1-15. That'll get you talked about for an off-season. But 0-16, that'll get you talked about for life.
