The Chiefs lose to Houston 31-24 and drop to 4-2. There are four things that may sink KC this season. 1. Mahomes lingering ankle injury. 2. Lack of a ground game. 3. A defense that has shown no improvement over last year. 4. Too many penalties on both sides of the ball, especially in crucial situations.

Watching TNF I felt sorry for the Giants defense. They kept the game within reach into the 4th quarter before running out of steam.

In London, Panthers over the Bucs 37-26.

The Saints keep winning with Bridgewater at the helm, 13-6 over the Jags.

Ravens over the hapless Bengals 23-17.

The Vikings almost double up Philly 38-20.

Washington gets its first win of the season over the Dolphins 17-16.

After flirting with an upset Cleveland falls to Seattle 32-28. Mayfield went to the locker room with an injury in the 3rd quarter and did not return to the game.

I'll give my takes on todays games later tonight or tomorrow, but I gotta talk about my Redskins now.

It was an ugly game that they really should've lost. But, I WILL TAKE IT. The most important than to me was not going 0-16. Going 1-15, 2-14, 3-13, I can deal with that. Those will get you laughed at for an offseason. 0-16 will get you laughed at for life. I was never comfortable, but can tell you the exact moment when I got really scared. When Fitzpatrick came in after the Redskins missed that long field goal. If the coaching staff had any idea that Fitz would be coming in, they wouldn't have tried a 55 yard kick. The second I saw him in the huddle I knew that the Redskins blowing the game was a gigantic possibility. And I was right. If the Dolphins ran any other play on that 2 point conversion attempt, there's no doubt in my mind that they win.

In what has to be the upset of the year to date the Jets beat Dallas 24-22. Darnold didn't look like he missed 4 games with an illness.

The Denver defense pitched a shutout in a 16-0 win over the Titans.

49ers over the Rams 20-7. Right now the NFC West looks like a two horse race between San Francisco and Seattle.

The Cardinals sneak past Atlanta 34-33. The Falcons season is sinking like a rock. They haven't been the same since that Super Bowl collapse against NE.

The Chiefs better hope Mahomes' ankle gets better fast, or that they find a running game fast, because the defense under Spagnolo makes the defense under Sutton look like the Steel Curtain defense. Not only are we not defending the pass OR the run (like we did last year), but we completely lack a pass rush (unlike last year).

I didn't think the Jets upset of Dallas was that surprising, but that's just my opinion. Jerry Jones must be at least a little happy, he's going to get to keep some of his money by not paying Dak so much.

Denver has won two in a row?!? Now THAT'S surprising!

The Saints and Ravens keep rolling, Bridgewater and Jackson both are playing at a high level.

The Cards keep Atlanta sinking like a rock. The unbeaten 49ers have to be the talk of the NFL now, Garoppolo is lighting it up.

The Vikings top Philly. We'll see if the Eagles can bounce back.

And in other news Dan Snyder looks like a genius for firing Jay Gruden as Washington gets its first win of the season. Oh, wait, strike that last statement, they beat the Dolphins, about the only team sadder than Washington.

As for the good news, I'm going into Monday night's game with nine wins in my work football pot when no other pot has been won with more than 8 successful picks.

Now that all the games besides the Monday nighter have concluded, I'll give my main takeaways so far. My take on my Redskins I've already given here.

Hopefully the Daniel Jones hysteria can finally die down. Yes he looked good in his debut, but he hasn't played nearly as well since that game.
The Patriots are gonna run away with their division and a #1 or #2 AFC seed, at least.
I don't see how Cam Newton gets his job back this season.
We could be nearing the end of the road for the top two QBs in the 2015 draft. Winston turned it over six times, and Mariota was benched.
The Browns at best are an 8-8/9-7 team. Baker Mayfield is indeed having a sophomore slump.
Kirk Cousins and the Vikings had a statement win vs the Eagles.
The Falcons defense is putrid. Absolutely putrid.
I'm very happy for Teddy Bridgewater. I don't think Bress rides the bench once he's healthy, but Bridgewater could very well be the Bress successor once Bress hangs em up.
The 49ers defense is for real, they totally shut down the LA Rams, who I think should be worried about Gurley. He hasn't been himself since the playoffs.
The Cowboys have come crashing back down to earth with a loss to the NY Jets.
Pat Mahomes ankle is a cause for concern. Yes he's still elite, but clearly he's not himself with that ankle bothering him. And like last year, if a team hangs with the Chiefs, the Chiefs are in trouble. Their defense still can't stop anyone.
The Steelers got a major win tonight with a 3rd string QB. And also props to their fans, they really travel well. Also word is Dan Snyder wants Tomlin to be his next head coach. I'm sure he'll really want him now after seeing what he did tonight with a 3rd string undrafted free agent QB.

I'd sit Mahomes starting today and start Matt Moore against Denver. The only hope of salvaging this season is a healthy No. 15 and he needs time to get right. The next home game is Green Bay Oct. 27 - that would give him two weeks to heal. If they wait for the week 12 bye it may be too late.
