I have been watching NFL Network's "Top 100 players in NFL history" with great joy. Talk about remembering some of the greatest players to have ever played the game. I thought Steve Young would be higher though.... He's in the 80's.

Last night, Deion "Primetime" Sanders was revealed as the #34 player of all time. Now call me biased (his nickname is my screen name for crying out loud!!!!), but he deserves to be higher. He is the greatest cover cornerback of all time. Most often, teams avoided throwing to his side of the field. He had tremendous speed, great instincts and just an overall great defensive back. People will criticize his tackling skills, but he does explain it in his rant on the NFL Network...

Watch this clip on Sander's reaction to being called the 34th best player in NFL history..

Deion should definitely be in the top 20. No doubt!

Thoughts?

"I didn't kill myself getting there. But I didn't kill myself getting out of the either."

"I handled my business when my business came to me, but if it was somebody's else business, it was somebody else's business."

He can say all he wants, there is no footage....but we all know there is. And it will be wonderful when (probably not though, don't want to make Deion upset) they show footage of him not trying to make tackles...because like he said "it wasn't his business"

Its a team game Deion....and your lack of helping people take care of business is WHY he is at 34...lucky to be that. If I ranked my top 100, he would barely crack 50.

Deion isn't even the best player with last name Sanders.

Barry Sanders has that title......by far.

Oh....by the way, anyone who records THIS, is automatically deducted 10 spots.

When I saw that he was ranked at #34 I thought that was way to high. Much to my amazement he was the 1994 NFL Defensive Player of the year, made it to 8 pro bowls and was a premier Kick and Punt returner and not a bad flanker. Seems about right to me.

Thirty four is about right. I thought he'd go in the 24-27 range.

His reaction made my night last night.

Top 100? Deion Sanders?

No order here:

Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Bart Starr, Merlin Olsen, Barry Sanders, Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Greene, Franco Harris, Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann, Rod Woodson, John Stallworth, Mel Blount, Jack Ham, Bobby Layne, Thurman Thomas, Y.A. Tittle, Fran Tarkenton, Frank Gifford, Jim Thorpe, Larry Csonka, Sam Huff, Tom Landry ( yes the player ), Don Maynard, Lawrence Taylor, Deacon Jones, James Lofton, Jackie Slater, Jack Youngblood, Jim Brown, Gayle Sayers, Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, Dick Butkus, Doug Atkins, Dan Hampton, Mike Ditka, Joe Klecko, Chris Spielman, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, O J Simpson, Johnny Unitas, Bob Griese, Jerry Rice, Reggie White, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Brett Favre, LaDainian Tomlinson, Ray Lewis, Mark Gastineau, John Elway, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen.

And this isn't doing research on the subject.

Let me add a few more names to TF4F's list:
Eric Dickerson, Kellen Winslow, Ozzy Newsome, Anthony Munoz, Rosie Greer, Mike Webster, Deacon Jones, Bob Lily, Earl Campbell, Junior Seau, Warren Sapp, Derrick Thomas, Steve Largent, Darrell Green, Howie Long....I don't think I need to go on. But we will have a good discussion on this I am sure.

Yeah, Deion's reaction was hilarious! But he was in his "Primetime" mode. Whether you like the man's personality or not, you have to admit, he is the best cover corner ever. Is he the most complete cornerback? No. But in terms of coverage, no one compares.

I was actually surprised Jim Thorpe was #37. That guy was the first phenom.

When teams are afraid to throw to one side of the field, that is making an impact on the field. Not to mention his return skills were amazing. Deion Sanders was a tremendous athlete. He should be top 20. In the top 10 like he said? Not quite.

I will agree that Barry Sanders is better, but you got to give "Primetime" his due. He is right though, you don't see him getting out of the way to avoid a tackle. He made tackles when he had to.

I wonder who will be top 5? It has to be (in no particular order) Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Joe Montana, Lawrence Taylor, and Walter Payton. Deacon Jones makes a strong case to be there too...

Did anyone check out the HBO segment on Jim Thorpe where they want to move his body from Jim Thorpe, PA back to his resting place in Oklahoma? An awesome piece...My most over-rated QB's of all-time Fouts and Moon. No matter if they were good or bad they always managed to put up a few less points then the opponent, especially in big games. I though OJ was the best player of all-time (seriously) but he never gets his due because HE KILLED PEOPLE!

I saw that and I was suprised that the residents of the city where he's at now thought they're opinion on the matter should mean anything.

Just seeing him as a football player and none of that other stuff, #34 sounds about just right...as a cover defender you couldn't name a better one...never saw a person cut off half a field like that...you cant find one corner today that can command that type of respect

Deion should be top 50, but not as high as 34. The thing about him was when that ball was in his hands, whether on coverage or returning, he was the most dangerous man in the game. It was that fact alone that cut the field. He was an ok tackler, but runbacks were definitely his specialty. But I suppose in a game of spectators, ego has to count for something. His antics made people either love him or hate him. In that aspect, he was much like how a wrestler's success is based off how he can get the crowd to react. And he certainly got reactions.
