NHL Returns!!!

Thanks for your words, Mitch! 🙂 I can only hope that the Leafs can do the same in 05/06 as what the Braves did in 95 😀

And yes, Ray and others, I have no doubt that what little influence the NHL had in the US before, has put the league in a terrible position. Its going to be, and really always has been, a tough sell across the USA. Outside of the traditional markets, like Detroit and Philly... maybe New York and St. Louis, they're going to have a bugger of a time filling seats. There are exceptions, such as Dallas, Minnesota and Columbus. But really, hockey has always been the lifeblood of Canada, much like Baseball is to the US. So in that respect, people across this land couldn't be happier :couch: Many of us here are still angry, but it will flourish in Canada once again.

Frankly, I could give a rats behind if the ratings soar on espn or not.... I'd like to see the league cut back to 21 teams or less anyways 😉 Even Original Six cities like Boston and Chicago had lost significant support, going back several years.

Anyway, I"m just glad the game is back..... GAME ON!! :bouncybou

eliminating the red line will open up the ice much more, and take away the concern on those two line pass infractions. good call.

and an automatic icing without touch up will make the game safer. no longer will 2 players careen toward the boards to get to the puck first.

both are consistent with olympic rules.

the shoot out is disturbing. U kill yourself for over 60 minutes, and can lose based on a fluke shot. i just don't like it.

I hear ya Baron... that's why I would never want to see the shoot-out in playoff hockey. Regular season may be okay, so long as the loser still retains atleast one point for the effort.

I agree about the touch-up icing and even the red-line to an extent. My only question is, what's to stop trapping teams from throwing guys back even further? Like leaving 2 or even 3 players hanging back at their own blue line... trust me, that's what the Czech's do in International play. I just don't think it will solve the problem.

Player's ratified CBA today...its all but official :imouttahe

gary bettman was beaming on the radio today here in NYC's WFAN.

now with the salary cap and presumably more even ditribution of high priced talent....and the number one pick going to the pens to work with super mario.....he does what to smile about.

and Leafs...you are correct, i think - watch for the players hugging the blue line and taking the mad pass into the offensive zone.

this is great news.....but on the other hand i`m a
Rangers fan.since they`ve been locked out my stress level has been at an all time low.ah what the hell...LETS GO RANGERS!!!

urge to kill rising......

That draft lottery blew! :sowrong: Sydney Crosby in Pittsburgh of all places? Well, if Mario plays it will be interesting anyway 😎

Free Agency starts Monday, should be crazy with all the players available 😀

I just read the posts on here for this Hockey deal coming back. I'm not a big fan. More of a Nascar buff myself. But I wanted to put in my 2 cents anyway. In my opinion, the worst thing we fans can do is run back to the stands. These people make way, way to much $ to be going on strike. Be it Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, or even Nascar for that matter. And we, as fans, pay the bill. If these guys/girls would get there heads out of there ass/ wallets and realize that. We wouldn't have to go without these great sports we all love. But they have us by the balls, and they know it. They can cry and whine over the fact that Millions of dollars a year is just not enough to live on. And they get away with it, because no matter what happens. The first thing we, as fans, do is run back to the ticket office and give them what ever $ the ask for. People say they are crazy for wanting so much $. Yea, crazy like a fox! We are the crazy ones for giving it to them in the first place. Let them come back and play for an empty stadium for a season. That will bring them back down to earth a little bit, in a big hurry.
Anyone else agree with this line of thinking? I can't be the only one. :Grrr:

I am so excited about the NHL's return. I found out that my New Jersey Devils have Pittsburgh at home on October 5th at 7:30 pm that night. You can bet that I will be tuned in. Sadira is a Red Wings fan and I will be happy for her just because the Greatest Sport is BACK. Okay Hockey fans- GET YOUR GAME ON!!!!! :rotate: :rotate: :bouncybou :couch: :xpulcy:

armpitlovr -

they didn't strike. the owners locked them out.

THANKYOU BARON!!! That's been one misconception that has irked me from the start! I'm not defending the players, but they were LOCKED OUT! And as you can see, they've payed dearly in return for this new CBA. If you wanna throw around complaints about millionaire players, you should do the same for the owners who got them into this mess in the first place :idunno: *end of rant*

In all seriousness, armpitlovr, living in Toronto... those same sentiments you've passed on have been talked about repeatedly. The truth is, atleast here, it's just not gonna happen. People here love there Leafs no matter what and the big boys in their big buildings will continue to own all the boxes and the majority of the good tickets. In a city this size, with hockey in their blood, refusing to show up just isn't an option I'm afraid. :ermm:

But lets try to keep this positive! HOCKEY'S BACK!! :veryhappy And this summer of free agency will be the wildest ever in its history, stay tuned! 😀

So you get to see the premier of Sydney Crosby! Wow, that's awesome 😀 I'm hoping somehow the Leafs sign Neidermeyer away from NJ, but we'll see 😉 Looking forward to renewing the Toronto/NJ rivalry in the fall :evilha: Sadira will be happy to know that both Yzerman and Shanahan are sure to resign for atleast 1 year 😀 GAME ON! :dogpile:

You have to admit leakstk is that the owners needed this new CBA or hockey would have folded up on us and that would have been a big shame. I am not defending one side or the other but I know the owners were in fact losing money and the game was in big trouble.
