A rather worried head peers round the bedroom door.

Neil, my brother, says he doesn't like to be the bearer of bad news, but someone has damaged my car. I stagger outside, still mussed with sleep and see a nasty dent in the driver's door, complete with damage on the pillar and the back door. The door cavity has also been punctured.

Some bastard has backed into my car and pissed off without reporting it. (A criminal offence over here, I don't know about over there?) So I spend most of the morning and part of the afternoon down at the local cop-shop, talking to my home office brethren, sorting out insurance details and arranging a courtesy car.

The moral of this story? There isn't one. I'm just pissed off and thought I'd annoy you guys with my story. 😀 Ta for listening. lol

Ah, that's better..........

Hit and Run isnt appreciated over here in the US. Sorry to hear about your car

You know, the amount of people in this world who just need a good smack upside the head is truly staggering. I feel for you, man. Car insurance is a wonderful thing, but it's got to be frustrating as hell to be unable to hold the fart-eater accountable.

Anong "ventable" friends

LOL we all have to burden someone and if ye can't burden your tickling brethern and sisteren, than who can you unload to.
Seriously tho, I understand totally, I hope the damage can be reparied asap and that good luck comes your way

Ghostie😀

Not annoying at all mate...been on the receiving end of that before.
People who dont take responsibility suck out loud....:sowrong:

If the local civvie Bill guys can ever tell me who it was (highly unlikely - right up there with little Jimmy Osmond making a comeback) then you can bet I'll give the bastard something to CALL police brutality! 😡

Sorry to hear the crappy news about your car, Jim. We have jerks like that over here, too. Although it is unlikely, hopefully you can find out who the buttplug was who did the damage. Maybe he/she actually has a conscience.

Drew

Been in your position myself, Jim. When it happened to me it was one of the neighbors. Could you tell what color vehicle struck yours? If it's not a neighbor, it's probably someone who visited them.

You could look around at your neighbor's vehicles and if that doesn't do it, ask them about visitors the night your car got hit.

Good luck mate.

I'm sorry you had such a rude awakening BJ.

I actually saw a hit and run last week. The lady hit a parked car in my neighborhood just as I was leaving for work. She drove away as if nothing happened. However she didn't get away without me getting her license plate number. A call to the police and they were out here writing a report and caught her a couple of hours later.

I sure wish someone saw who got your car love.

Hang in there.

Jan

Blimey BJ!!.........

...try getting your car knicked! the sympathy and concern shown by my local plod was over whelming, along with the sense of impending industry and vitallity all about to spring in to motion like a coiled spring!.....FAT CHANCE..... on the other hand, should inspector knacker catch me holding my fone in my hand whilst driving, then of course the full majesty that is PC plod at his finest is brought to bear against me!

Drew - thanks for the sentiments mate, but I don't hold out much hope.

SS - I examined the damage myself. Personally I couldn't see any other colour paint there, except my own.(Dark green.) I have a couple of vehicles who I suspect, but there were no witnesses. (At least, none have come forward.)

Jan - Bless your conscientious heart! 🙂 I'm glad there are eagle-eyed people out there. It makes our job easier and it makes for the occasional smile for someone who's day started really shitilly.

Indy - Bollocks. 😀

Seriously though...
I am probably doing my career no good, but I agree with you. While traffic duty is vitally important to the community, too much emphasis is placed on quotas and generating income through fines. Thames Valley Police actually handed abck a £3,000,000 surplus they had, because they couldn't think of anything to spend it on. That's speed cameras for you. A good invention, if only they were used in places where accidents were likely to happen, instead of half-deserted stretches of dual-carriageway. Of ocurse, not being civvie Bill, but MOD, such things are rarely in my jurisdiction. Sometime, but not often.

As for reported crime, well we've got the bods. In fact I don't think the UK has EVER had more officers serving than it has right now. Actually try putting guys on their beats instead of burying them under reams of paperwork in the station and you might get somewhere.

Sorry BJ..........

........you must have heard that line a hundred times from jack asses like me, but this thing with the mobiles is grist to the mill I have to say. Today I hear on all the news chanells about how many thousands of happless citizens have been nicked on the first day of this petty law.

I am also outraged at what i read about speed cameras, some guy called paul smith has been asking some fairly basic questions about the effectiveness of the yellow peril. His web site makes interesting reading www.safespeed.org.uk a bloke called Brunstrom (some police speed cam gaffer) has issued orders that NO ONE must have ANY contact with paul smith. This is pathetic, paul smith is convinced that speed cams do NOT reduce traffic accidents, he has lots of data that he says prooves it and has asked for data from the police so he can compare his data with theirs.

Why should the police with hold this kind of information from the public? I can see no reason at all, what ever that information shows, they need to understand they are doing a job FOR the public and the public pay the bills, if this type of policing is defective,or worse counter productive then we should be told.

By the way BJ I have a hands free system, and (up to press) a clean licence!! so I have no personal axe to grind on those two points, but when I had my car half inched I really got the feeling I was a fucking nuisance.

I'll forgive ya this once Indy. 😉

Speed cameras DON'T reduce accidents and fatalities, by more than a handful. But when you consider that they were designed to raise revenue and not protect the public, this shouldn't be surprising.

Oh the joys of not having to have to bother with speed cameras more than once every two months...

I don't disagree with any of your points Indy. I just sometimes find it frustrating that blokes who joined the Job to do a decent day's work and actually SERVE the public (me, for one) are buried under a rainforest of pointless paperwork each day and put of traffic duty. Sure, it's a good skive, sat on your arse on a motorway bridge, but it's not gripping, if ya catch my meaning.

Why is it that no one takes responsibility for their actions anymore? Is it really that hard to do? People. :sowrong: I hope they find 'em, so you can bash their face in the dirt.😡

Got the quote from the garage today. Full repairs will cost about eleven hundred and seventy five pounds.

Sometimes it just don't pay to be a pacifist. 🙄

BigJim...I'm really sorry that happened to u🙁 It's like HDS says, too many people do not take personal responsibility for their actions🙁

I have experienced an incident similar to redIndian I think....I was restoring a 1969 camaro a few years back...(yeah, girls do this...lol) I was such a motor head, lol. When my dad bought the car for me it had a 230 engine and we switched it with a 350 automatic, had just picked my beautiful car up from the body shop after having special ordered rear quarter panels and had them welded on , hadn't had the car re-painted yet.
But here is what happened...I lived in a basement apartment, my bedroom window overlooked the parking lot where I parked my car, also in that parking lot was the trash dumpster for the building (I know, not pleasant but it was my first real place, lol)

I heard the sanitation truck as was normal for that time of the morning, but then I heard a hideous sound of metal scraping metal...I immediately knew it had to be my car.

Yes, eternal optimism aside, and even though there were other cars parked as well, I knew it had to be my car,....and it was....they creamed it on one side.
By the time I was dressed and outside they were gone.

Long, dreadful story made short, I was never able to recover any money from them because after the hearing it was decided that my car was not legally parked. (Yes, the same spot I had been parking in since I lived there, like 6 months. The same spot that everyone else in that building parked. The same spot the building manager told me was MY SPOT to park.)

So I was not able to collect from the sanitation department but I was able to collect from the apartment complex, they repaired my car.
Two weeks later, someone stole my gold valve covers and new transmission out of my shed, and scratched the entire (alternate ) side of my car with a key(?)

Even though the car had not been re-painted it was a very smooth, clean primer red and prepared for paint. Needless to say, it was a long time before I recovered...Why did I bore u with this? To let u know I understand ur pain...Sorry ur not able to collect from insurance though...that's rough.

Join the club, somebody hit my car while I was eating breakfast at Mcdonalds. I didn't even notice the damn thing until I got home. What made it worse was it was my father's car and I had to answer to him for it.

What don't kill us, makes us stronger TM. :twohugs:

I was able to collect on insurance, but it was MY insurance, which pisses me off. The repairs cost me nothing but inconvenience and a slightly higher premium for the next three years. I don't know if you have this in America, but we have a no claims bonus on our policies here. (If you ain't got it, I expect there'll be something darn similar.) Every year of claim free motoring you have, you get another years worth of bonus and another discount of the next year's premium. I had 6 years worth built up. This accident would probably have cost me at least 3 of them. As luck would have it, I had protected my no claims bonus with a small, additional premium. Having to admit to a claim for my door will raise my premiums for the next 3 years or so, but only by about 30 quid. With luck, shopping around for providers next year will sort out my payments, so I barely notice the difference. I even had cover for a temporary 14-day hire car.

I was glad to hear you claimed off your apartment TM. 🙂 Was that because they'd wrongly told you that you should park there?

Everyone, thanks for your kind thoughts. Rest assured, in the highly unlikely event of me or the civvie Bill finding out who did this, I will sue their arses into the ground and press for a prosecution against them, for leaving the scene.
