Through a Rapist's Eyes (No Joke)

A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on
what they look for in a potential victim and here are some
interesting facts:

1) The first thing rapists look for in a potential victim is
hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail,
bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are
also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short
hair are not common targets.

2) The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for
women who's clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry
scissors around to cut clothing.

3) They also look for women on their cell phone (Dru Sjodin),
searching through their purse or doing other activities while
walking
because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4) The time of day men are most likely to attack and rape a woman is
in the early morning, between 5 and 8:30 a.m.

5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked at is
grocery store/mall parking lots. Number two is office parking
lots/garages. Number three is public restrooms.

6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a
woman
and quickly move her to a second location where they don't have to
worry about getting caught.

7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year
sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.

8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged
because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going
after you isn't worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9) These men said they would not pick on women, who have umbrellas,
or
other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their
hands. Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close
to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince
these guys you're not worth it.

10) Here are several defense mechanisms: If someone is following
behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or
stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what
time is it, or make general small talk, I can't believe it is so
cold
out! t here, we're in for a bad winter. Now you've seen their face
and could identify them in a lineup, you lose appeal as a target.

11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of
you and yell Stop! or Stay back! Most of the rapists said they'd
leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be
afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

12) If you carry pepper spray, yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY! and
holding it out will be a deterrent. Also yell FIRE! instead of Help!
Most people would rather investigate a fire instead of getting
involved with a dispute/struggle.

13) If someone grabs you, you most likely will not be able to beat
them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are
grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either
under
the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh --
HARD. One rapist said he was pinched under the arm so hard by a
victim he was trying to date rape, she broke through the skin and
tore out muscle strands -the guy needed several stitches. Try
pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it
hurts to say the least.

14) After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a
particularly unfortunate experience that if you forcibly hit a guy's
parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you'll anger the
guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists
all disclosed is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of
trouble. Start causing trouble, and he's out of there.

15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two
fingers
and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing
down on them as possible. You can literally bring a very large man
to
his knees and perhaps break several of his knuckles with this simple
technique.

16) Always carry the "Combat Mindset" with you at all times. 1.
ATTACK the attacker! 2. Have the will to fight and never give up. 3.
Have the will to survive.

17) If you choose to utilize a firearm for personal protection be
sure to purchase a gun that fits your hand, that's a formidable
caliber, that's reliable, and most of all... that you can shoot
effectively. Always seek training from a competent
instructor/shooting school, and apply for a carry permit so you can
legally carry the gun in public.

18) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Never be
complacent, walk with confidence, don't look preoccupied or
confused,
always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you
can and if you see any odd behavior, don't dismiss it, ALWAYS go
with
your instincts. You may feel a little silly at the time, but you'd
feel much worse if the guy really was trouble

Not sure...

about several of these Ms. Jen. This really belongs in Gen Diss but it'll get more looks here so I'll leave it for awhile. A few of the ones that trouble me are:

The intent here is good, but this, like all the "attack back" scenarios, has a down side depending on how hardened your attacker is or how likely he is to do major time if caught and convicted. I certainly wouldn't say don't do it, but it's a risk. Hopefully other methods will prevent it from ever coming to this point...

Again, not sure if warning an attacker to cover his eyes is a good move. I agree with yelling fire, and anything else under the sun you can think of that will atrract people....

I like the umbrella one myself. Nice pointy object with a good amount of reach...

Thanks for sharing! Ill definitly think twice about taking an umbrella with me when I go out

If he's covering his eyes it'll be easier to get away! 🙂

Thanks, Jen - studies show that if people rehearse these things in their minds (imagining doing these things if they find themselves in a dangerous position), they are more likely to be able to act competently despite the fear of the moment.

Heh,

and what do the poor ladies do if they are being stalked by a potential tickler? Though I have not heard of an actual account of a tickle predator I do remember seeing in the news about 8 or 9 years ago about a guy with a foot fetish. It happened in the Cleveland area. Some guy would approach women in parking lots and force them into their cars. Once inside he would take off their shoes and socks and start caressing, kissing, and licking their feet. I don't know if they ever caught the guy but at least the victims were not too ashamed to come forward with such a bizarre story. Not that I condone this man's behavior, in fact I abhor it, but he sure missed his chance at some quality foot tickling. 😉

Another important tip to remember is to always stay alert and as aware of your surroundings (and possible threats) as possible. Look around as you walk down the street... try not to look nervous/frightened/furtive, but BOLDLY survey the area and everyone in it. The implied confidence alone might help. Also, you can often keep an eye on what's going on behind you by looking at various reflective surfaces, like store windows, car windows, etc...

Re: Not sure...

thanks for sharing that!! it has made me decide to get a taxi to work aswell., i was going to walk. i am a target it seems, as i have long hair and ofren talk on my mobile to combat boredom as i walk. 😕
