Odd question. Identifying a Toy sword

Since I honestly don't know where to start with this so I guess I'll start here. I have an old toy sword that I am absolutely in love with! I really want to know who manufactured it, when it was made etc... Unfortunately, I can't find any info on it online when I try and look up toy swords. I might submit a picture later (don't actually have it with me at the moment) but I can say it's fairly small (perfect for a kid though!), has really pretty golden hilt art that features vegetation (Think classic Excalibur!) and has the Letters "MFC" at the place where the blade meets the hilt.

Does anyone have any idea how to go about this? I mean tickling and toy weaponry go hand in hand right? Hahaha! Anyway, I just want any help you guys can give me. It can be actual info on the sword but it can also be as simple as techniques for looking up this stuff rather then actual info on the sword or referring me to someone or something that would help. In fact, this might be more helpful as I am in college and efficient internet research techniques would be really helpful.

I might be able to submit a picture of a sword later. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

A photograph would help a lot, yeah. Just snap a pic with your phone and upload it as an attachment.

I'd just echo Jimmy's sentiment. Without the packaging there's really not much to go off of and if you had said packaging I doubt you'd be in this conundrum.

Maybe if there is a production number or something on the sword it'd help to search that up but an image would easily be the best way to find out about something on the internet. Chances are someone has had it at some point in time themselves.

Thanks guys and yea, I know I haven't given you much to work with. I got it at a thrift store so yea, no packaging whatsoever. However, I'll take a look for a production number.

I'll take a picture of it as soon as I can. It's at my families place and I'm at my apartment. When my father comes into town hopefully he will bring it. Then I'll take a picture. One more thing, It's made of plastic (but man it looks so good even with the tape I've used to keep it from breaking).

Once again though, any recommendations on how to research this my self? The closest thing I have found is this site.

http://www.medievalfantasiesco.com/ToyArmsandArmour.htm it's a company that specializes in making Medieval toys for children and their company name happens to have the Acronym MFC. Sadly, their toys seem to be wooden rather than plastic. That being said, I'll ask through e-mail if they ever made plastic swords.

There's a neat feature on Google now where it analyses the picture and finds similar ones. It's a long shot, but if you can get a picture of the sword on a white background with no interference, it may be able to pull something up. As I said, it's a LONGSHOT.

Incidentally, please keep us posted - this thread has me wildly curious now. 😛

Oh wow! Okay, So I don't have the sword yet but as luck would have it, I was watching an online video where multiple people use my same sword. there's a really good shot of it in this vid (you should watch the whole thing! it's great) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKdPMqguDw8&feature=youtu.be&t=5m2s

I don't see the initials but everything else is the same. I'm uploading a better picture from the vid as well. anywho, I'm excited because I think this is an indication that not only is it still in production, but it's common wherever it is.

Ha, I was thinking about this thread a couple days ago - thanks for getting back to us!

That's an interesting design. I feel like if I knew it, it would've clicked, though. :/ All the same, I'm still really interested in this. Please keep us posted if any new info comes to light. 😀

Cool picture! Looks like a neat sword. You said yours was a toy right NoNy? So it has no edge or is it actual metal (but blunt)? From the pic, the blade looks kinda thin. Maybe it was modeled from a sword made for speed and agility (rather than sheer power)?
