Oh, my achin' back!

I was just informed that at the tender age of 50 I have become a great uncle. Mother and child are healthy. And I'm happy except for the fact that after six nieces this kid turns out to be a girl too. For twenty three years I've had a new Zebco 202 rod and reel (still in the wrapping) to take a nephew fishing for his first time. My mother's opening line when she called this morning was, "Leave the pole at home. It's a girl!hahaha"


Moms can be cruel at times.

One other point:While 50 is young to become a great uncle, imagine being only the age I am now (37), and becoming a great aunt. My mom's first cousin had her first child at a young age, and, at the time, my mom's aunt was only 37, and became a great aunt. Thats really young.
I hope that one day soon, you will be blessed with a great nephew, to take fishing. In the meantime, enjoy all your nieces and great nieces.

I thought so too Mils, long ago. Seems little girls, Sugar Creek, and worms just don't mix. The fishing outfit I bought so many years ago has become a running family joke. I don't think they make Zebco 202's anymore.

Congrats kered! I'm a great uncle 10 times (6 boys and 4 girls) and I'm only 46. It's actually fun having the little ones around for Christmas, Easter, and other holidays as well as coming over to Uncle Ray's (that would be me!) to swim. No grandkids of my own though.

Congrats on another niece! Aww, I'm sure one or two of them wouldn't mind going fishing with you; just let them bring a book or something in case they get bored, and put the worms on the hook for them. Either that or promise some sort of treat afterwards, like ice cream. 😀

But if not, then here's hoping you get a nephew in the near future too!
