My daughter got me tickets to the Missouri Mavericks game last Friday night. The Mavericks are a hockey team that play in the ECHL, the minor, minor league of the NHL.
During the second intermission, they played a clip on the big screen. The camera pans to a six year old kid. He's dressed in a suit and tie, he paces for a couple of seconds and then spews out Herb Brooks speech from the film Miracle, VERBATIM!! He does have a cheat sheet which he uses for the first seconds of the video. But, I was really impressed that he could do that, but I was cracking up the entire time.
Having seen the movie many times (and it's a GREAT movie, especially if you were alive to witness the real thing in 1980), I was sitting there mouthing the words as he said them. He gets to the end of the speech and he looks directly into the camera- "their time is over, it's done. I'm sick and tired of hearing what a great team the Soviets have, SCREW 'EM, this is your time, now go and take it!" and then he storms off camera, beautiful. . .and hilarious!
