Hi cellardweller, i reacted that way because it was my quote that was being responded to.I thought perhaps my original comments were missunderstood.I beleive that any overtly crude or hurtlful replies to this.... or any other thread... would be... and should be deleated. That is the mods job here in my opinion. But to discourage any negative opinions, may be a tad stifling.

(edit: After reading Ness's post above... perhaps i'm guilty as well of missunderstanding another's comments... saying that someone is in the "Beavis and Butthead crowd" because they'd dissagree with you WOULDN'T be an uncivil or stifling thing to say....my mistake)

Would it be too much to ask if I ask the "Gay is gross" Beavis and Butthead crowd to refrain from the usual comments?

I know many of you value the privilege of speaking their mind freely a lot, but... in all honesty, I would agree with Ness here.

Some guys have posted really offensive and insulting comments, on other threads, regarding ethnicity, sexual preferences and so on, in the past.

So asking ppl to behave themselves is not really stifling negative opinions, rather than preserving a serene climate.

[Whom am I kidding? I am the first trying to sparkle flames! 😀 ]

Guys, guys, guys... It aint about who's opinion is right or wrong... its about who posts the best damn clips! Someone can rip homosexuals, pregnant women, environmentalists, nazis, jews, retarted children or atkins dieticians all they want; as long as they enjoy tickling, then they belong here; nothing else matters. If you want to tell people how to post, go join the FCC, and if you want to tell people how to think, go be a far-right christian preacher in the deep south. Enough said.
...P.s i realize the hypocritical nature of saying dont tell people what to do then trying to do it myself, heh, but i felt like going on a rant lol, so sue me 😛

WELL SAID CHESHIRE CAT! You're an inspiration to us all!

But 25 parts! It's a nightmare trying 2 download them all when the site only allows a maximum of 2 downloads at a time!

I forget where the clip came from
There's a copy of this video on www.jayspix.com, in the Grafmiller Collection under one of the clips areas for those who, unlike me, have common sense and would rather download a full version instead of hundreds of different parts!

All the best vids are splits but they're damn annoying to put back together!

I have spoken out against censorship before, and I'll do it again. If someone wants to make an ass of him or herself by posting an ignorant comment, I say -- let them! I'd rather know exactly what that person thinks, so I can make up my own mind about that person! You know? Same thing with the PC police! If someone is a racist or a bigot, the best thing you can hope for is that they will expose themselves. If you are the target of a racist or bigotted comment, it's good to know who your friends are. Free and open communication helps everyone learn about everyone else, good and bad!

That said, Ness didn't threaten to delete all negative posts. She merely asked if people who don't approve would mind their own business. There are, after all, lots of other threads on this site to which they can post.

Besides -- I think that asking people to have the good sense to know when they are being baited is a very good thing. At the end of the day, anyone with two brain cells clicking together should know what a negative post to THIS thread would get you. You'd have to be a raging moron to post an anti-gay comment here... So anyone who DOESN'T know that deserves everything they'd get, IMHO...

$0.02,

Pete

Good point, Pete... in theory.

If somebody really wanted to post slurs, no threat from the mods would stop them from.
Actually, telling somebody NOT to do something might perceived as a challenge, a dare to DO it.

They wouldn't care about ridicule, or being regarded as moronic arseholes; they would post anyway, for the thrill of spoiling the fun for others.

Maybe they would even quote the scriptures or plead to some ill-conceived right to free speech, to back their slanders up with.

And mods would be faced with two choices.

Either delete the offending posts and/or close the whole thread - thus appearing "weak" by using force to suppress objections.

Or let the trolls rampage on, and let them offend anybody who happens to disagree with them.

That's why I feel speech shouldn't be taken as a granted right.
To some extent moderation is needed to protect users from slanders and disparaging remarks.

Is that censorship?
If it is, complain with the staff; they did in fact censor posts both mine and yours, the other day. 😉

I guess I should have said this before. There are considerations here I assumed were understood (and shouldn't have, obviously):

1. This isn't a public website. The moderators can do all the censoring they want, because they have that authority from the owners of the site. The USERS don't pay for the site, so they have exactly the rights the owners afford them.

2. That said, the moderators try to use discretion, and do their best to allow the users to express themselves freely. But it's subjective for each moderator. They can do no better than to work hard to be fair, call them like they see them, and (if they are very concerned with being fair) ask other mods for advice in hard cases.

It's very hard to make good calls in the face of raging ignorance. If *I* were a mod, I'd try to distinguish blatantly hateful posts designed to cause a riot from posts where people are trying to make a point (ignorant though it may be) in sincere expression of their views. I'd delete the former, allow the latter.

Sometimes it's easy to tell the difference between when someone is just trying to cause a fight or is just being a dick, and when someone has said something totally stupid but is actually trying to make a point. Sometimes it isn't. But I think that as long the moderators try to do that, everything would be groovy (more or less, with a minimum of shiznit).

I think indiscriminately deleting every post that expresses an unpopular opinion is fascist. And that's just my opinion.

Problem is, being anti-gay is actually popular.

Oh well, let's see what other people post. 😀

Yup, it can be, anyway.

Havn't see too much of it here though.

Unpopular with the mods on this site, Kalamos. How about a little charity of interpretation?

Well, they are waiting to strike... Hark! Can you hear them!?

/me clutches his sword, leaning against a mortar wall.

Ach! They are drawing closer, I can hear their claws grating against the stones... lurking in the shadows and waiting for the right moment to dive in, and plunge their fangs in our throbbing necks...

/me spits, narrowing his eyes.

Ah! I won't go down without a fight!

I am not misunderstanding your posts on purpose. 🙂

I am simply pointing out that ppl who usually post disparaging posts would count on the force of numbers ["everybody" dislikes gays, commies, euros, and so on] and the fact they think they are right cause god or constitution "says" so.

My personal opinion is of little importance; I usually post to expose weak links in ppl's reasonings. 😉

Or to sparkle a flame, so I can brush my english off in the verbal scuffle. 😉

rotflmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

I'll just add in here....it's not that we are trying to excuse negitive comments about the video in general, it would just be nice if the part about it being gay were left alone. You can not like a video, for whatever reason, but leave sexual preference out of it. Better yet, leave instead of coming here to watch a video you know you'll hate just so you can yell at gay people for being gay. 🙂

I agree with Kunoke. I sometimes admonish users that constructive criticism is welcomed, but that vague insults are of no help to anyone and only serve to chase away potential contributors.

Personally I do not delete posts unless they are clearly against the rules (i.e., are "intentionally unpleasant or disruptive"). I consider repeated spam and gratuitous hate-speech as rule violations, but I would never delete a post that merely expressed honest negative opinions, as long as there was no unneccessary name-calling. In ambiguous cases I always try to seek the input of at least one other staff member before taking action.

Best regards,

Delete them all and then let the gods sort them out!

😉

J/k.

[Looks like this post is going to be *very* short lived...]

Here Here!! Right on, Valerie. I think it's important to remember that everyone doesn't have the ability to lay out their view eloquently. We have to give people a little latitude.

Would anyone like to comment on the clip itself? LOL 😛

LOL...*I'M* not watching that ...

Seriously though .. I haven't had much luck getting Hatcha to work on my Mac... as a matter of fact, never. I have the program on my HD, but it has never worked.

Ah, you bunch of spineless pansies!

/me gnaws on his havana cigar

Why send a puss along when you can have a real man do a real man's job, I say!

* 48+ megs and 2'39" later... *

So, THAT is gay tk clip.
Not that different from vanilla stuff. 😀

Liked the action, but the 'lee didn't really *enjoy* being tickled, if you get my wind...
When men are around you can't fake reactions to the same extent.

So... it took a while eh? You could have put something shorter, ya know?
Whatever! 😉

Next time I wanna see a woman doing the action, and I wanna see HIM show his appreciation! 😀 😀 😀

😉

Wow, did I read that right?

I hope you mean "... in this forum."

If not, I know who I won't be voting for for public office...

People need to realize that when the constitution talks about "freedom of speech" it refers to the government.

That means that you can criticize the government, and can't be arrested for it.

In general, free speech is not absolute.

For example, you can't go into a crowded room, and yell "FIRE!" if there is no fire. It would cause a panic, and you could get arrested for it.

Thanks for pointing it out, cellar... 😀

Besides, some ppl would dismiss me as an eurocommie, so why bother? 😉

[We all should check laws about slander and libel...]

Trotting by, yelling "ah, gay is gross" or "ah, fat is gross" or again "ah, euro is gross" is not really what freedom of speech is all about. 😉

Anyway, who cares about my opinion? I am just enjoying my right to speak freely!

😀 😀 😀

[Smells like technicality eh?]
