I hope they saved at least a little of it to analyze chemically. There's a lot of information that could be gained about the composition of air and soil in which the grapes were grown, about the prevailing climate in those days and ab out the effects of pollution, crossbreeding, etc. upon modern crops.

In the article it says they recovered a few bottles and just opened and tasted one. I also believe it said that the champagne tasted just fine. So cool!
