One of the most idiotic reasons for a lawsuit that I've ever heard

Okay, folks, we are all aware of how suit happy the citizens of this country are, but I just heard a report of a lawsuit that may well "Take the Cake" so to say.
Apparently, according to a report on Fox News, the parents of a teenage girl in Maryland are suing Walmart, because it unknowingly sold a CD in it's stores that had a song which contained a four letter word in it. All together now: AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Honestly, this is one of the most assanine reasons for a lawsuit I have ever heard, and I hope that if it does go before any judge, it should be thrown out of court.
Firstly, does anyone think for a minute that this innocent little girl whose parents are suing Walmart hasnt heard (And probably used) four letter words in her school? Life can be vulgar, deal with it. It doesnt make a person bad if they use the F word in expression, even in lyrics, under certain circumstances. Billy Joel had a song called "Laura" on his Nylon Curtain album that had a line which said:" Here Iam, feeling like a fucking fool" I must have heard that song several thousand times as a teenager, it didnt corrupt me any.
I can understand if Radio and TV stations cant say certain words due to FCC regulations, that makes sense to appease the rights of those who dont like vulgarity on regular TV, but even that has gotten more loose in recent years, as words like Bitch, Bastard, Asshole, and such are used on late airing regular TV shows.
In conclusion, this is an absolutely idiotic reason for a lawsuit. Many songs in pop music contain vulgarity. If people find objection to them, dont listen to the song, but to sue Walmart because they sell a CD with a song which they didnt know contained vulgarity, and to hold them liable, is going over the line!

Eventually there will be no such thing as vulgarity. In 1939 Gone With The Wind caused an uproar for using the word "damn." Now it's kicked around without a thought. Why? We've gotten used to it, and realized it doesn't actually have any meaning. Eventually people will grow the fuck up and realize that swear words have no intrinsic offensive value, except that we've been taught they're offensive based on antiquated linguistic notions from centuries ago. Why shield kids from curse words - they're all going to grow up to use them eventually anyway. We'll all be better off when no one gives a goddamn flying fuck about this shit.

Ya know. I have two children and I have ceased censoring their music preference because 1) I've raised them to be good little people and am not worried that music is going to turn them into prostitutes or gangsters and 2) half the time you cant understand the lyrics anyway. Would these parents prefer their children listen to country music where they sing about how much life sucks or how often their lovers cheat on them? Dont jump me. Im not putting down country music. I was raised on it but I also know that I UNDERSTOOD every word they said in those songs and knew EXACTLY what they meant. LOL. Ok...so sue me.

Im not surprised at any type of frivolous law suits nowadays. trial lawyers are destroying this country. pretty soon youll be able to sue someone for looking at you in a hurtful manner. its becoming a joke! and all the sleazy people in this country are taking advantage of it.

Maniac, I know we have had our differences, but I couldnt agree more with everything you said. As you pointed out, it has gotten to the point where a girl could probably sue a guy, for stalking, or harrassment, if he happens to just glance at her for an extra second, and make her nervous. Pathetic and sad!

Well, doggone it, I agree with these parents who are suing Wal-mart.
I'm STILL corrupted for life after hearing the following songs in my youth:

The Who- "Who Are You?" ("who the fuck are you?)
Charlie Daniels- "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"("I done told you once, you son of a bitch")
Steve Miller- "Jet Airliner" ("funky shit going on in the city")

I'm gonna look at suing Caldor's, Bradlee's, Woolco, and Crazy Eddie!

So there!:cry1: :cry1: :cry1: :cry1: :cry1: :cry1:

I usually boycott the book racks at Wal-Mart. I refuse to allow them to legislate morality for me. Pretty soon, I just might boycott Wal-Mart altogether, because I have a little problem with their business and slavery-uh-employment practices.
The prices may be fantastic, but trust me, folks- the Entity is evil.

As a one time former Wal-Mart employee, Knox, I agrre with everything you said. Wal-Mart is the epitome of hypocrisy, and lemme tell ya, the day I stopped working for them I felt as free as Lincoln freeing the slaves😛

However, all these lawsuits is disturbing. Pretty soon, we will sue the chewing gum companies whenever our gum gets out of flavor🙄 :sowrong:

This is a good reason to be careful when attempting to tickle a stranger. I read on this forum how some people give quick tickles to strangers. that could be grounds for a lawsuit. thats why id never do anything like that as tempting as it might be.

I heard that on the overnights, they lock all the doors at the Wal-Mart, so that the graveyard shift can't leave the building. The managers don't have access, either. There have been instances where employees have died from epileptic seizures, etc. What kind of employer is this? They steal money from your check, make you work off the clock, they lock the doors at night so you can't steal a colored sugar filled Pixie Stick or two, they ban books that present life in anything other than a "Leave It To Beaver" tableau, they drive their own vendors out of business. All so you can buy a case of the store brand version of Sprite for $1.88. Is this the true face of America? Perhaps...

I happen to agree about never tickling a stranger. With as suit happy as our country is, actually touching someone without their consent or knowing them could be grounds for arrest for assault, and a lawsuit. That is something I would never do.
I think I posted on here about how I used to smell babysitters feet when I was little. (Gross, I know, but it's how I got my foot fetish) In most of those cases, I did ask, and the sitter agreed. There was one time that I did do my foot smelling when it wasnt exactly consentual. Here is what happened:
I know I've posted on here before about how I smelled the feet of a pretty airline stewardess friend of my mom's when I was about 8. In that case, my parents werent around, and she was lying face down on one of our lounge chairs at our pool, as I edged my nose closer and closer to her bare feet. Pretty soon, I got close enough to sneak in a smell, and she became aware, and was like:" What are you doing to my feet?" I tried to stammer an explanation, and then she said:"Were you smelling my feet" I said something like:"Yes, I like to smell feet, can I smell your feet?" She sat there for a minute, and then said:" Okay, if you just let me lie here and smell them and dont bother me, its no big deal" (Remember at that point I didnt know feet were ticklish, so I didnt try to tickle her) I sat there near her feet for probably 5 or 10 minutes just taking little smells of her bare feet. Later that night, with all of us, including her husband and my parents sitting around, she let the cat out of the bag, and told everyone what I had done. I dont think my parents were that thrilled, but no one really came down on me. That was the first and only time anything like that happened, because I never did anything to her feet again. As far as craziness with my foot fetish, that is probably the craziest thing I have ever done, as I never tickled or smelled the feet of a stranger who wasnt a female family member, sitter, or close family friend. I certainly would never do so now, due to all the sex harrassment laws. Iam better off waiting until I get a girlfriend because the penalty I would receive isnt worth the one second of fun I would get from tickling a strange girl's feet.

I heard that......

I have serious issues with some things I've heard about WalMart and their policies. However, while I am sure that, in specific stores, some of these things have occured, I don't think it's as much of a blanket thing as what you've been led to believe.

I've known several people who worked for them. While they agree that they basically suck to have as an employer, I've never heard anything about being locked in. (In fact, I used to see these guys at the local Denny's when they were SUPPOSED to have been at work.) So, they could obviously get in and out at will. They do, however, pull heartwarming crap like firing a woman for leaving when her husband called to say that their son had just been seriously injured in an accident and refusing to give a guy a morning off (He had someone to cover for him, too.) to attand his best friend's funeral.

As for their reading materials, I've always found plenty there that isn't a "Leave It To Beaver" feel. In fact, there are things there that I wouldn't buy because I don't like the content. Is it possible that your local store manager is ultra conservative and allows that to guide his inventory? Not all stores carry the same stuff.

As for the original topic of this thread, the lawsuit about the language... It's just another example of a society that's gone mad. I honestly believe that some people go around looking for things they can sue someone for. In fact, I happen to know someone who does and has gotten rewarded money on more than one occassion.

Mitch, I'm sorry, but it really did. This is the reason that you have so many problems in your life. Think about your problems. Think about them. Think about them a lot. Think about your problems some more. Think about how bad they are.

Now that you have identified your problems, you can see your need for help.

Please, for your own sake, schedule therapy sessions (at $150 per hour) with P50's counseling service.

If you don't get help with P50's counseling service (at $150 per hour), get help somewhere.

If you don't have $150, be smart; sue somebody. A big store is the best bet.

Drew, I'm glad you understand your need, and are not in denial (as Mitch is) we can begin your urgently needed therapy sessions, and start your journey back to wellness as soon as you have $150

Locking in? Yeah. I can't tell you where to look, but I saw articles in the New York Times this year about this. Not a chainwide policy, but at individual stores. Lawsuits are reportedly pending, of course. Lawsuits are really the only recourse people seem to have, which accounts for the atmosphere in this country that Mitch describes. That locking the employees in could be allowed to happen at all says a lot.

When I finish my novel (and I will), and sell it to a publisher, I'm praying that Wal-Mart bans it from the shelves. What I've learned in this day and age is, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Good luck on the book, Knox. I'm in the midst of writing one myself...a murder mystery. I'm on chapter 15. I just started a few weeks ago and quickly got side-tracked by holiday stuff. But, I've got things all outlined and ready to jump back into it as soon as things slow down a bit. I even have a niece who's done editting who wants to be my editor for it.

Ann

We now return you to your previously scheduled thread. 😉

Well, I for one, totally agree with the lawsuit completely!!!

I believe we should be morally correct and live in a world where there is no swearing, no violence, no sex, no greed, and no immoral behavior at all! Any incidences of moral indecency should be exposed and the perpetrators prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! We should get back to our puritannical roots, put the women back in long dresses, and make this country the moral pillar it used to be!

Now, if you really believe anything I just said, you should seek professional help immediately.🙄 🙄 😉

As far as WalMart is concerned, one of my instructors used to be a manager in one of their stores. They are the most hypocritical company that exists on the planet. They want to buy for pennies on the dollar instead of a fair market price. They treat their employees like garbage, and if you're a person of color, it only gets worse. I personally don't think that's what Sam was thinking when he founded the company. But, then again.........
