One of us has fallen

I just received some sad news today. I just found out that an old girlfriend has passed away. The reason I'm posting about it is because she was a ticklephile like the rest of us, and the first one I ever came in contact with face-to-face.

Actually, I dated her in 1987, and didn't really see much of her after high school. She was far from the love of my life, or anything like that. She ended up marrying her long time boyfriend and had three kids.

I remember dating her around 12th grade. We were friends, then dated for awhile, then were just friends again. I remember on our first date, she tickled me, talked a lot about tickling, admitted she liked tickling, and said she was extremely ticklish herself. I tickled the heck out of her that night, and we also tickled each other, at some point, on every other date we ever went on! We even tickled each other just about every day in school!

So, my friends, I do believe I was dating another ticklephile at age 18. As I said, I never was in love with her. But I always thought I should've made more out of the relationship than what I did. I didn't relaize what I had at the time, and always thought it would be fun to meet up with her again. I kind of thought I would indeed cross paths with her again. It really put things in perspective.

There was an ad in the local paper requesting that people send any old pictures of her to her husband. I looked in an old photo album and I still had her picture from 1987. I'm sending it to him tomorrow.

Well, I just wanted to share that story. To my knowledge, she was not a member of the TMF, but I think she would've liked it. The guys around here would've gone nuts for her.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. So she was only 34 years old then. How tragic it is to die so young. Do you know the cause of her death?

I also am saddened by this news. I guess I've gotten to the age where I'm getting nostalgic about the past, but I've been thinking a lot about lost loves and gals I've tickled and dated. It'd be hard to deal with a loss, even after years. But I hope that you will mend your hurt, and remember the good times.

Thank you all for your sentiments. Yes, she would've turned 35 some time in late October. No, Stan, right now, I don't even know what she died of. Earlier this evening, I tried to track down another old friend, who also knew her, but I'm still waiting for him to call me back.

IMO we as a community are poorer for her loss. Even if she wasn't active in our community, she might have become so, or she might have inspired another to become active.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for you.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I still don't know what happened to her, although I've heard a rumor.

I have to admit, in the back of my mind, I thought we'd hook up again some day. Hearing the news of her death really brought back a lot of memories. Memories that were there already, but became more clear. For one thing, the relationship ended too soon. I was actually surprised that I still had her picture.

i'm sorry to hear of your loss bigbrowneyes, my dad was 33 when he died when i was 4. it is sad how some people die young. but on the bright side, maybe God allows tickling in heaven!

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, BBE. I personally think it's best to keep the good times you had, figuratively in a cherry wood trinket box on your mantle, and not ruminate on what might have been. I can vouch that such a course only leads to a vast emptiness.
Speaking of ruminating, disregard certain insensitive, boorish remarks from familiar quarters. If everyone did that, it might be a nicer world.

Yes, I agree it's best to think about the good times when something like this happens, instead of dwelling on the "what ifs..."

I just got caught off guard when I saw in the paper that she had died awhile ago, and it was the first time that I heard about it. Earlier tonight, I did talk to someone else who knew her very well and he hadn't heard anything about it either. We're both guessing that she was out-of-state when it happened. It's just strange I guess.
