Every year, my family and I put together shoeboxes as part of
Operation Christmas Child. I save items and shoeboxes all year
so that there isn't one big expense at the end of the year. You
basically pack a shoebox for a child (pick gender and age range),
and you make a $7 donation to cover shipping. If you make your
donation online, you can print out a barcode to tape to the box,
and you can track it online to see where it ends up! It's very cool.
Last year my boxes went to Peru. If you include your name and
address, sometimes you get a note back - one of our boxes made
its way to a Native American reservation in North Dakota, and the
mother of the little girl wrote to my mom. 8 million shoeboxes went
to children all over the world last year alone.

Here's a short video talking about the project. Visit their website for
instructions on how to pack a shoebox, how to get it to Samaritan's
Purse, and any other information. You're also welcome to PM me or
send me an email, [email protected]. I'm more than happy
to answer any questions.

An early Merry Christmas to all of you 🙂

I remember this. when I was in intermediate, every kid in our class would make up one or two boxes. 🙂

I did not know about this!!! I will participating for sure. I will spread the word about it as well. Great stuff sweetie.

Thanks you guys 🙂 I hope we see a great turnout of people
taking part. It really is such a rewarding thing. It makes me
forget all about the commercialism we have turned Christmas
into, and see the joy on a grateful child's face.

While this is a great idea and I definitely want to contribute to something this worthy...I am afraid to think about Christmas @_@ because..since I work in retail once November 1st hits...the crazy Christmas shoppers descend like the hounds from hell X)...but it's things like this shoebox idea that make the Christmas season so wonderful!

Collection week is in early November, so you would have to have your
shoebox(es) ready to go long before the crazy shoppers descend. 🙂

Oh thank goodness ^^ I always pick up little cute knick knack things throughout the year...either for my niece or just to keep in case of needing to give a gift to a friend's child 🙂 so I definitely have a cute assortment of stuff I could send a needy child ^^

Awesome 🙂 Make sure you include soap, toothbrush, toothpaste,
socks, school supplies, a stuffed animal, and love. :happyhop:

I have no shoeboxes on hand. Can I use similar size boxes? Sorry if this is a silly question.

They have to be shoeboxes, and the box and lid have to be
wrapped separately from each other. You can buy the plastic
shoeboxes at Walmart or Target, or I bet if you went to a
shoe store and asked for a box or two, they would help you
out. 🙂
