Page Loading Problem -- Please Help

Dear TT,

I love this site, but as you may have noticed, I haven't been posting here as often as I used to. The reason is a problem with page downloads.

With the old format (medium blue), pages would load as fast as on any other comparable forum on my 56k dial-up. When the site was upgraded a few months ago to the current style, page loading took considerably longer. However, during the past few weeks, I can barely get the site to function at all.

Pages now take about 90 seconds each to load, and posting takes about 60 seconds per message. Photos and other attachments download very fast with no problems -- it is only the forum pages which are slow.

I don't know if this is an issue with my particular connexion, or if other dial-up users are having the same problem. Other vBulletin forums of similar size which I visit load pages in about 5-10 seconds on average.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Mistress Val--it's been taking forever for pages to load for me, too and I'm not on dial up...I don't know what's up, but it's definitely frustrating!!!

hey me too! I have a pretty fast cable connection and lately it has been taking a LONG time for pages to load.
It will take a bit for the page to come up at all...then I will get either all but the last chunk where the quick reply box is or thepage will load completely but hang there for several munites before jumping to the newest post.
So it's not just you, Missy Val...apparently this is a problem. I thought it was just me too but since you're on a dial up it probably is much worse for you.
Any ideas, grand mystic poobah, TT?

I'll check into it later today. Keep in mind we have dramatically increased with traffic over the past few months as well so that tends to slow things down.

I decided to pay a visit to vbulletin.com to check out some optimization tips other large board owners use. So let me know if you notice an increase is speed...

I sure hope so. The lag will only slow the moderators down from reviewing threads. Not a good thing at all. 🙁

Hi, Nessie, Camel; I'm relieved that the problem wasn't entirely on my end.

TT, I was just about to post that the page download speed seemed to be better -- then my attempt to access this thread resulted in a hang, refresh, then partial download. My reply to post is taking at least as long as before, if not longer 🙁

Nevertheless, I did notice that most of the forum pages were loading faster before I logged in, so you are probably on the right track 🙂

I don't know what you did, but I'd like to hear about it. Technically speaking. I've thought a few times about opening up an anime forum of my own, and this was always something I would worry about. Any advice on what would optimize a forum's download time?

They are certain performance tweaks only useful if you own a vbulletin license.

Yeah, and with a vbulletin license could you list what some of those 'tweaks' are? Or perhaps provide me a link specifically directed at optimization? Many thanks if you can. Then again, such features may only be accessable to open, paying accounts. 🙂

Just search through the vbulletin.com server optimization forum. I don't honestly recall which thread it was, but you should be able to find them even if you are a guest browser.
