I think it comes from repetitive sexual abuse and by prudish parents who try their hardest to keep their children ignorant to sexual education. They think they are protecting them but, they are actually building a road to incest.

Sexual preferences are generally something we're born with and soemtimes something that is influenced by our backgrounds. That can mean gender preference, age preference or styles of activity. Those preferences aren't the problem. It's the lack of ability to control those urges that causes problems. Those who actually prey on others don't simply have a preference for kids (or whatever). They have other issues that make it a way to control others. As with any form of rape, sex isn't the reason. It's the weapon. Some of those who prey on children aren't true pediphiles either. They're often predators who choose kids only because they are an easy target.

As for condemning those who prey on kids... That isn't going to help. Get them off the streets, sure. Get them into some sort of treatment, fine. But, would you condemn those here on this forum who go up and tickle people without their consent? While a totally different level in our eyes (since we all enjoy tickling), some people would see it as just as sick and offensive.

Understanding the issues involved and doing whatever is necessary to help the person overcome it is the best solution. Getting them out of circulation while they do so has to be a part of that. And, letting people know that they're in their neighborhoods is a good way to add another check to be sure the person isn't actiing out. But, because it isn't something you can generally predict in a person, you aren't going to stop it completely...no matter how you choose to deal with it.

(For the record, this is coming from one who has been preyed upon by more than one person as a kid...and only one of them was actually a ped.)

Yes I do think they are born with that unacceptable urge just like regular folks are born with the urge for the opposite sex. The pedophiles need to get seroius mental counseling on how to not let this urge get out of hand.

Ann makes a good point. A situation like that happened in my family years ago. I heard about it maybe 10 years after it happened. I was extremely pissed and hurt. At first I considered avenging the victim but, in the end realized that I couldn't do that either. I just couldn't bring myself to terminate another family member even though what that person had done disgusted me in the worst way. I love everyone in my family and am somewhat close to both individuals who get along well at family gatherings but, I wish to God that they would both get counseling over what happened instead of sweeping it under the rug. Until I found out about this I was one of those people who believed that pedophiles should be tortured to death in the worst way but, it's interesting how hard it becomes to carry that kind of hate when it turns out that the sicko is someone in your own family and even worse, someone you grew up with. Sometimes life just sucks. That's just the way it is. You can sit around and cry about it, sweep it under the rug until it becomes a curse or try to make repairs.

The issue with pedaphiles is that in their mind, age isnt an issue. Its the same for people who fuck sheep or something, to them its not odd and they are makin love to whatever. You can have people who are 10 years apart and they see nothing wrong with it, despite it being similar to statutory depending on state\legal issues.

NAMBLA is actually the least of our worries. The FBI and others watch them very closely since they've allowed themselves to be so visible. It's those who are off on their own, preying on individuals that pose the greatest threat.

One thing we should keep in mind here too... A ped is no more able to change his desires than you or I...probably less so since they have no legal outlet for it. The desire isn't the crime. It's what you do with it.

Hiryu, I can easily relate to your feelings finding that a family member is involved. Contrary to popular belief, most child sexual abuse is perpetrated by family members and trusted friends.

I myself have two beautiful sons, ages 10 & 13. The thought of anyone sexually assualting them makes me absolutely sick. I would kill the bastards if they touched them. But in reference to you question. Is it born or not, I read in a medical book that, this is scary, that every 7-8 sexually abused children will grow up and have some sort of sexual assault on a child. Please if someone has the recent percentage on this correct me. But it is interesting I was constantly tickled on my feet by my parents and family members for years. When I said pictures and clips, I thought it would be obvious I wasn't refering to any media depicting actual molestation, since the whole idea is to avoid such activity. There's plenty of nonsexual material on which they could get off with a little imagination. Clothing catalogues, children shows. Hell, I've seen Japanese cartoons with overt sexual inuendo among children.

If somebody has a thing for kids, it's probably something they never asked for, any more than we asked for a tickling fetish. If they act on this desire and molest children, then I say lock them up and throw away the key. But for the ones that restrain themselves knowing right from wrong, I think there's got to be a better way of handling them instead of lumping them together with the perpetrators of molestation. Just my opinion.

In my opinion paedophilia is not a sexuality, it's a sexual dysfunction and an act of violence if acted upon. As to its origins, no-one can say for certain. What I do believe is that we need to be more open and accepting of its occurences in people, because at the end of the day they don't choose to be the way they are.

If we can be more open about it and put some serious resources into it, then we might get people coming in voluntarilly off the streets and getting treatment before they commit one of the worst crimes imaginable. If that happens, the the amount of kids whose lives are blighted by evil and perverted acts will go down. Reducing that has got to be a good thing.

Have you all been reading about that 22 year old guy who got the 14 year old pregnant and legally married her in Kansas - because Kansas has no minimal age limit to marriage if there is parental connect!?!?!?! and even more !?!?!?!?

So - if a rich 50 year old in Kansas wanted to marry a 5 year old and her (or his) impoverished parents connected, it would be LEGAL! This is the craziest planet! But I love it though, I really do. But that puts a whole 'nother interesting twist on pedophile, laws, what is natural, what is accepted by society, and, you know, whatever. I have no opinion here, I just like to talk.

Drew your correct, its we not you lol. Anyways I am trying to figure out what makes the pediphiles tick. I think there's stock in the theory that these predators pick on kids cause their essentially easy targets. But, well I can't think of a personal experience myself, but the only conclusion I can draw is that it's sexual fixation. Interestingly enough it seems as though the sexual predators seem to be after boys and girls alike. I think that makes a strong case for the whole "easy target" theory. The rapests that go after the middle aged woman seem to have some other kind of sexual fixation. Anyways back to the pediphiles, what other thoughts can yall share?

On that same vein, oddjob, I once met a 16 year old girl who said her parents were going to arrange her to marry a 35 year old man. I was 17 at the time and I hadn't talked to her for some time, hopefully she got to make whatever decision she wanted on her own.

The oldest surviving Civil War widow was something like 16 when she was forced into marriage to a civil War vet in his 60s or so - Not exact on the details, I'll google it later. She eventually died in the 1980s but was still getting his military pension as his wife. Marring very young, including for the purposes of sex, isn't all that alient to our culture; in fact, raising the age of marriage participants is what's new (as we live longer). Not the same as abduction and rape, but not all that far either.

Some individual state laws are truly bizarre. Shagging a five year old girl would be legal for a fifty year old guy if they were "married", but two twenty five year olds making love in Iowa is illegal if they aren't "married", resulting in the guy's committal of statutory rape.
