I keep reading how bad grok's moderation is since they got rid of the free tier. not certain I want to pay for something I can't use to the extent I'd like to do so. found another gnerator called perchance. not as good as grok. but it works until I make up my mind. any thoughts? on the work or on grok/grok alternatives. ps - I'm not tech savvy so go easy on me

Is it really free/no signup? Looks interesting.

For myself, I'm learning to do local with Stable Diffusion. I had Claude help me set it up, but even then, there's quite the learning curve to do things right. But on the plus side, it's free, offline so no data leaks, and no censorship. You don't even need a state-of-the-art setup, I managed to get it running on my IntelCore i5 with 16GB RAM with an AMD Radeon 6600 GPU with 8GB RAM. Slow? Yes, count about 2 to 3 minutes to generate an image. But it works, and the quality isn't too bad.

Edit: just wanted to add since you said you're not tech savvy: I didn't know jack s**t about local AI before I got into it, so don't worry about it, if you want to try to go local, Claude is a very beginner-friendly guide. I can also share a few things since I've been there if you want

I just gave perchance a try, may I ask how you managed to make your pictures look so good? Mines have malformed faces and limbs

honestly, a lot of trial and error. did learn that adding too much detail confuses it. saying a middle aged blond woman will get a better image than describing her as if this was a story

"... adding too much detail confuses it."
That's the "context window". Perchance being free, you don't get a lot of tokens. If anything might give you pause, know that perchance leverages your browser cache. The plainest consequence of this feature is that you will have clear your cache feom time to time.

It is bad with fingers. It adds arms and legs and elongates torsos. The key is to simplify and generate lots and lots of images, then be prepared to edit at least half of them.

Try the "brain" icon to the right of the prompt area. You'll get some interesting results.

What phrasing do you use? I find if I create anything AI still doesn't understand physical touch.
