Well, for those of you who know me, and talk to me in chat, you all know how much I love my Atlanta Braves. Tonight, they were the victims of something that has only happened nine times in history, a perfect game by Randy Johnson. For those of you who dont know baseball, a perfect game is when the hitting team gets no runs, hits errors walks, baserunners or anything. 27 men bat, all of em are retired. It's only May, so it isnt like a pennant deciding game, and I will admit it was exciting to watch. Congrats to Randy and the Dbacks. He was great, and deserved it, and even as a fan of the opposing team, it was exciting to watch.

Randy Johnson has thrown 9 perfect games in his career?!?

Good gracious! He must be the best pitcher ever!

Ack! That was a mispost wasnt it!!?? Sorry! What I meant to say of course is that perfect games have only been thrown nine times in baseball history in over 125 years, not that Randy Johnson has thrown 9 perfect games, but I think you knew that. This was Johnson's first El Perfecto, and the man was awesome tonight.

Actually, there have been 14 perfect games prior to Randy Johnson's yesterday, 13 in the regular season and 1 in the World Series.

Link to boxscores of all 14:

Of all 15 perfect games, including yesterday's, there is only one where the pitcher struck out a majority of the 27 batters: Sandy Koufax struck out 14 in his perfect game. 😀

Thank you, milagros, for that tidbit. I'm a baseball buff, and I actually wasnt aware that there had been that many El perfectos. I remember reading about Don Larsen's perfect game in the World Series, and some of the others, but I didnt know it was actually that many. Johnson was magnificent last night. One just cant pitch any better than he did.

I knew good and well, Mook my man, just wanted to have a bit of fun with how you typed it. I'd been hearing on ESPN that there have actually been 17 (Counting Johnson's) in the Majors. It is quite a feat (Not feet. Heh heh!) one way or the other.
