www.mlb.com.

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced today that Pete Rose will remain banned from baseball.

The article stated that Mr Rose and Mr Manfred had a recent meeting, and that Mr Manfred seemed "genuinely interested" in the details of Rose's case, but that after a great deal of thought, Rose will remain banned.

I've stated my opinion on this.

Being a long time baseball fan..

What Mr Rose did is very serious, and I'm in no way diminishing the severity of his actions.

However, Rose has been banned for 26 years, and it seems to me, that, even in the case of a severe crime, Rose has served his time, and should be re instated.

What he did, while immoral, is not, murder, and, there are criminals who did far worse to innocent victims, who have served less time than he has.

At now age 74, I will be surprised if Rose is reinstated during his lifetime, unless it is baseball's intent to perhaps have him remain banned for life, and reinstate Rose posthumonously, so even if he would be elected to the Hall of Fame, he would not have the pleasure of seeing it.

I will be surprised if Rose is re instated anytime soon.

Thoughts on this?

I have also stated my views on this before. Rose should be banned for life and inducted in the Hall of Fame after he is dead and can get no enjoyment from seeing it.

By the way, it is long past time to induct Joseph Jefferson Jackson ("Shoeless Joe") into the Hall of Fame. He died over 60 years ago. His lifetime batting average, .356, is bested only by Ty Cobb at .367 and Rodgers Hornsby at .358. (Pete Rose's is "only" .303.)

Mils has good points.

It could well be that maybe Rose would be inducted into the Hall of Fame after he passes away.

However, with Shoeless Joe Jackson being dead for decades, and still having not been inducted,. it is also highly possible that neither Rose nor Shoeless Joe Jackson will ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Read an article tonite (and no,and I don't have a link) that suggests Pete had bet on baseball from 1985 to 1987, and continued to bet on sports (apparently baseball too) well after he was caught. And, apparently Pete had no remorse when asked about it all. That was why Manfred decided not to reinstate Pete. What can one say... if you don't learn, well, you get what you deserve, I guess.

Rose bet on baseball..Theres a sign in every major league and minor league clubhouse stating if you bet on baseball you will be banned from the game...No ifs ands or but!! And I'm a Rose fan, but unfortantly. it is what it is. Just saying

I'm posting here because of a development.

I just read an article that Pete Rose petitioned Commissioner Rob Manfred today for Rose to be reinstated.

It's been four years since I made this thread, and Rose has still not been reinstated.

My feeling , will be what I said.

Rose will remain banned for the rest of his life, and perhaps be reinstated after he passes away.

if I've heard right, Manfred mentioned that major league baseball might adopt a policy that death would end the "lifetime ban".

If this is truly the case then Shoeless Joe would be able to be inducted and Pete Rose could be inducted, but it would be posthumously.
