With everyone paying so much attention to the season Manning is having this year, I figured I’d take a look at some of the other great seasons QBs have had . . . here is my Top 5 . . . note, in all of these seasons, each QB led the league in passer rating . . .

(1) ’99 Kurt Warner – 325/499 (Comps/Atts); 65.1% Comp Pct.; 4353 yds; 41 TDs; 11 Ints; 109.2 passer rating; League MVP; Super Bowl MVP; Super Bowl Champ; Overall Record: 16-3

(2) ’94 Steve Young – 324/461; 70.3; 3969; 35; 10; 112.8; also rushed for 293 yards and 7 TDs; League MVP; Super Bowl MVP; Super Bowl Champ; Overall Record: 16-3

(3) ’89 Joe Montana – 271/386; 70.2; 3521; 26; 8; 112.4; also rushed for 227 yards and 3 TDs; League MVP; Super Bowl MVP; Super Bowl Champ; Overall Record: 17-2

(4) ’84 Dan Marino – 362/564; 64.2; 5084; 48; 17; 108.9; League MVP; Super Bowl Runner-Up; Overall Record: 16-3

(5) ’71 Roger Staubach – 126/211; 59.7; 1882; 15; 4; 104.8; also rushed for 343 yds and 2 TDs averaging 8.4 yds/carry; League MVP; Super Bowl MVP; Super Bowl Champ; Overall Record: 11-3

Okay, I had to throw my boy Roger in there . . . of course, it was a pretty impressive season . . .

By comparison, Peyton Manning is on pace for 348/512; 67.3%; 4649 yds; 60 TDs; 10 Ints; and a 126.6 passer rating; the TDs and passer rating would both be new NFL marks, and him winning the league MVP is a foregone conclusion; however, him winning or even making it to the Super Bowl is still certainly in doubt . . . the Colts look like they should finish first in the AFC South with a projected 12 - 4 record, but will most likely have to go through the cold weather of both New England and Pittsburgh to get a chance to meet up with a hot Eagle (?) team . . .

My question to you guys is whether Peyton must win the Super Bowl (and perhaps the Super Bowl MVP) for people to call his season this year the greatest a quarterback has ever had????

I actually saw on Fox sports they were doing a comparison of rookie QB's. They seem to think Marino's '84 season was the best ever.

I agree with Tron. He has been close but no cigar. that would be the icing on the cake
