Does anyone else think that Manning is a bit overrated due to the fact that he makes way too many terrible throws and usually has a high number of interceptions each season. He has just thrown his third pick tonight for the second consecutive week of 3 interceptions or more in a game. He constantly makes bad plays in key situations in games, like last week against New England for example, where he cost his team the game when they were in field goal range and he tosses up and awful pass that gets picked off. Let's also not forget the terrible throw he made last Super Bowl that ended his team's chances in the game.

Let's face it. Brady doesn't do that. I don't even feel that Manning belongs in the same breath as Brady.

As TF4F or Rob would say... Let's be fair about this. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are phenomenal QBs.

If you mean best QB of all time, then yes I think he could be overrated in that regard.

I think Manning's efforts should not be scoffed at when you realize that there's a lot of injuries the colts have sustained. I'm sure consecutive games with a high amount of interceptions doesn't help the Colts, yet I wouldn't say that Manning should take all the blame.

In some ways, Colts remind me a little of the Redskins. 5-6 is more than a fair record for a star QB who has less talent to work with.

I also remember a time when the Pats struggled as recently as '08.

During the Superbowl that year, it was the tale of two games. The first three quarters were dull, but as soon as the fourth quarter began some fantastic plays were made by both teams. Even though the Pat's lost the Superbowl I remember saying to myself that Tom Brady was one hell of a QB to put up a huge effort with the inadequate protection he was provided against the Giants Defense.

I agree with you and I am actually a fan of manning. However, he always seems to throw a lot of picks. He forces balls where they don't need to be thrown.

He's overrated after two games? He is carrying that entire team as he has done for the past decade. He lost his star TE and has turned the nobody who replaced him into an almost-somebody. He was hit on at least two of his interceptions this week and the game-clinching INT last week was due to the last-second pressure that caused him to alter his throwing motion.

There are two things that we know about Peyton Manning:

1. He is one of the greatest players in football's history, top-5 perhaps.
2. Tom Brady, even with his three SB rings, is not in the same class as Peyton Manning. Peyton would have a handful of rings if he were QB'ing that team when they were on a run.

Despite his accomplishments, he'll never be Johnny Unitas.

Pouty Peyton would have had his dick ripped off by Deacon Jones, or even this monster:

He's very overrated and he has a terrible attitude. He throws more tantrums than a 2 year old when things don't go his way

The stats don't lie. He's not overrated. Like any player though... he has his off-nights like tonight.

I hear a lot of people claim that he's doing it without any help. Well.....Tom Brady did it for a long time without Randy Moss.......and last time I checked......Tom Brady is getting it done just fine right now again without any big name receivers. Manning has had great players to throw to his entire career (Reggie Wayne, Harrison, Dallas Clark, ect).

Also, who does Michael Vick have??? Last time I checked he's got I think 1 interception on the entire season this year. Not having much help is never an excuse for throwing 7 picks in 2 games. Manning has always had an above average interception total each season of his career.

Talk about an overrated player, I thi nk Randy Moss tops the list based on his selective performing and headcase attitude.

Manning is good because he is a tireless worker. There is nobody that preps himself better than him and he is constantly putting in time with his receivers to get in sync. Natural talentwise, I think Brady has an edge. He makes other players around him better, such as Wes Welker. He has become a primary possession receiver.

I think what makes a really good quarterback is how he performs during crunch time, During my time, the two best quarterbacks I have ever seen are Staubach and Montana. One can make cases for QB's going back further but they were before my time so I can't really say.

Manning is not over rated....he has bad games like any other player has....cant be on point all the time... and you fail to mention that the Chargers have his number...all players have a team that gets the best of them at times...so relax

I think one item overlooked is that team has a high percentage of passing over run so when your facing a nickel and dime package on any 2nd & 3rd and long heck even a new person to football knows he's going to throw. So 2 picks in 60 attemps that's 1 every 30 attemps is more then 2 or 3 others QB's for a game. Now if we say folds in the big game then that's a yes and it didn't help the first year out of Tenn Tee Martin wins a National Championship.

He threw the "winning interception" of Super Bowl XLIV for 74 yards:

Sure he has a ring...against a lucky Bears team that somehow made it to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman. When against opponents that actually show up to play (like the Saints) he chokes.

Agreed. Any Payton Manning led team is formidable in just about any game. But a high profile interception in big games like the Superbowl or other key games will always invite a lot more scrutiny, and a lot less appreciation of his play in the overall context of a career.

I think manning is a great qaurterback..... i love football and have watched alot of it, but he isnt in the top five of all time and i would say barely even in the top ten.... it also doesnt help the year he finally wins the superbowl he beat rex grossman who didnt even play majority of that season for the bears. and dont forget for those years he lost to brady he cried about the contact down field which brought in the five yard auto first down illegal contact rule.... brady never had a issue with it and until after then manning couldnt beat brady... when the patroits struggled in 08 brady was hurt in the first qaurter and missed the season in its entirity best qbs of all time in my opinion are as follows
1. montana (if its 4th and goal from the ten this guy will get it done... only way to beat him is not to give him the ball at the end)
2. Tom brady (this guy well he just wins, he plays tough and tries hard)
3. john elway (the guy won alot of games and set alot of records and went out on top twice not mention he played in five super bowls and three he lost to where to montana and walsh, sims and parcells, williams and gibbs)
4. troy akiman (this cat was the man in a semi-short career played hard and won alot, beat some good talent too, in a time where marino, elway, young, simms, moon and montana were still all playing he made a good mark.)
5. terry bradshaw(i know everyone will agrue this but the guy had good numbers for those times. never turned the ball over, played hard, time superbowl mvp and one of two qaurterbacks to win 4 titles.)
6. jim kelly (i know ur now really throwing flack.. but this is my first non superbowl winning qb on my list and i will tell u why i put him hear.... in a time period he had great stats went to four straight superbowls and should have won one of them. but when u talk about inadequacy in talent he played with a low pay roll team in a time with no salary caps. this cat was great just caught some bad breaks... plus he played against marino and beat him out almost every time)
7. roger staubach ( he really created the personna of americas team)
8. Dan marino (this guy was a throwing machine with little to nothing in the backfield i mean at least manning had james for along time who happens to be one of top rushers with over 12000 yards and even had marshal faulk for a season.0
9. kurt warner ( yes he only won one superbowl but he played in 3 and lost to rothlisberger and brady.. plus greatest show on turf)
10. Bret farve (he is the iron man)
i would say manning is like 11th tied with steve young and frank taverington

The Saints aint worth much...all you saints fans can hate me, i really dont care....The Vikings as bad as they are this year OUT PLAYED the saints in the NFC championship game, it was because of poor play calling by a now fired Childress that the saints made it to the bowl. Getting back to Manning YES he IS OVERRATED...he loses to the chargers 90 percent of the time and the pats always kick his ass. He only has a ring from beating the bears because all the Good teams that year were devestated by injury and were relying on 2nd and 3rd string players. Fact is Manning is Overrated...Overrated...O...V...E...R...R...A...T...E...D and so is his worthless Jockstrap brother. Ever watch these guys in an interview?
"So Payton, How do You feel after todays game"?
"Well...uh ya know, we had to basically march the ball down the field...and um get into the endzone, and our uh defense well they had to try and stop the other teams offese, so yeah ya know".....Jeepers creepers...NO SHIT...hes as dumb as a box of rocks.

There....Rant complete

I can not even take this thread seriously. But TF4F and I will discuss this topic on the TMF Radio Sports on Tuesday night. You can hear my opinion on this then.

One more thing....when you bring up Brady you need to mention a lot of his wins are due to the help of the "Spy-Cam", which was proven, was used and the Pats punished for cheating. I can not look at Brady in the same light since he was a part of the cheating.

Proud...this is how I look at it.

1. Montana
2. Elway
3. Marino
4. Steve Young
5. Aikman
6. Bradshaw
7. Jim Kelly
8. Farve
9. P. Manning
10. Warren Moon

I know...Brady is not on my list, you can look at my post a couple above for that reason.

Rob

Are people smoking crack? Seriously, people believe Peyton Manning is OVERRATED? That tells me that there are some who do not have a clue about football.

Peyton Manning is the reason the Colts are even relevant. Year in, year out, he produces stellar numbers. Every QB has had a bad game. In fact, even Tom Brady choked in a big game. (Anyone remember the Super Bowl loss to the Giants?). Peyton Manning is consistent every single year. Why are people even thinking he is overrated? I mean come on, he has a bad game and people think he's not that good. And for the record, Brady has not always kicked Manning's ass. The victory this year was the Pats first since 2007.

Besides, how many other QBs you know are an offensive coordinator at the same time? Enough said....

C'mon, thats crazy. has nothing to do with his greatness. you make it sound like he cheated in tons of games. now please redo your list and add brady. :ty:

Marvin Harrison, Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne were stars before Peyton Manning? Really ndj101982?

RobAce nice list...Yes on Montana, Elway, Farve, Aikman, Bradshaw, Peyton Manning And You Need Brady!...Yes on Marino but he sucked in the playoffs, even in College he could not win big games...Young maybe cracks top ten...Kelly 0-4 in the big one, maybe cracks in at ten?... I would probably remove Moon, had Dan Fouts syndrome. Put up big numbers but could not put up points in many close ones. In other words would lose a game 45 -42 and the next week lose a game 13 - 10... A few others, Unitas, Bart Starr, Staubach and Stabler... Namath not for a career, but I liked him for a big game. When he was hot he was good as anyone but very streaky.
