Has anyone gotten the virus 😡 that causes a blue physical memory dump screen every once and a while? 😡 If so, how did you fix your computer or/and get rid of it? 😕

Eek, I suspect that I may have gotten it in early August. I blamed it on a conflict between my new modem and my old (broken) one, but always wondered if it had been a virus.

Can you tell me more about this? I run Norton Anti-Virus about once a week, and it did not detect any viruses. I only had the memory-dump blue screen once, fortunately.

Best of luck,

I think what causes my blue screens is corrupted files in my hard drive due to a virus attack. I am pretty sure I got the virus from a new site that was created by an individual not a company. I believe the mpegs carried a trojan virus.

If you have an anti-virus program then run a full scan. If not, then click on the AVG Anti-Virus link in my sig. It will take you to a site that offers a free (not trial) anti-virus program. If all else fails; then I'd hate to say but you'll have to reformat.

Hi, Tickle Theater. May I ask your opinion on how AVG Anti-Virus compares with Norton Anti-Virus? My NAV subscription is coming up for renewal soon, and to be honest, money is a big problem right now. If AVG is equal or close, I might consider scrapping NAV and using the free product instead.

Thanks,

Well Norton is a very good professional quality antivirus program that I would use myself if I had the spare cash to burn. I use AVG since it's free, and seems to be doing the job nicely.

It scans my system every single day during the wee hours of the morning, warns you when your virus definitions need updating to guard against the latest viruses (every 2 weeks!), and protects my Outlook e-mail program by scanning every outgoing and incoming e-mail messages.

Thanks TT for the info 🙂 I love free software that actually works, but I think I'll keep Norton for anti-virus protection since it isn't overly expensive and I'm used to how it operates.

For anyone who is interested in freeware generally, an excellent source is http://www.webattack.com/freeware/freeware.html. A nice feature is that they test and rate all the software before they release it.

Thanks again, and happy tickling,
