I've heard that Steve Martain is going to play Inspector Clueseau (sp?) in a new Pink Panther film. I understand that it's going to be a prequel, as well. I've seen most of the earliest ones and loved them. I was initially uncertain whether or not Steve Martain could pull it off, but the more I imagine it, the better I like the idea. I bet he'd be pretty funny. He was hillarious in Planes Trains and Automobiles when he played Ruprect the Monkey Boy.

now this is great news. a prequel is better than merely continuing on after peter sellers. and steve martin is very talented, and sometimes underrated.

vive le france!

First I've heard of this. I don't know about Steve Martin for this role. You have a point, he was excellent when he assumed the character of Ruprect in that movie with Michael Caine. Also, I thought he displayed great agility and coordination in Roxanne. Maybe he can perform the physical stunts required to pull it off. My greatest reservation is with his voice. I'm not sure he can pull off European-accented English.

I think Steve Martin has HUGE shoes to fill. He's funny, but we'll have to see if he can match up to Peter Sellers' hilarious comic genius. I know quite a number of Americans as well as across the globe think the same way about the former Goon. It'll be interesting. If Steve does match up, big-ass kudos to him. It would only cement him firmly in the annals of big-screen history, I think.

Body language...

Physical comedy is something at which both Peter Sellers and Steve Martin excel. They each look as though they are having the time of their lives when they play quirky nuts.

And Martin loves to do funny voices (Inspector Clouseau's accent wasn't exactly your average European one 😛 ).

I'll bet he's overjoyed at being able to contribute to Sellers' Pink Panther series. I'm looking forward to it!

p.s. Ruprect was in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

D'oh, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

That's right, ticklebutton. It was DRS. Another classic Steve Martin movie. I think I'm going to have to see his attempt before I form any serious opinion. I'm definitely going to check it out though. I wonder when it's supposed to be done.
