Good News
Judy and her parents went back to Sloan Kattering today for a follow up with the appointment they had a week ago today. The purpose for this visit was to evaluate the tests that were taken last week and make a determination if the surgery is actually an option.
Based on their findings in the tests and after a panel of doctors conferred with one another, they determined that the benefits of having the surgery would be worth her while to have the procedure.
I found this encouraging to say the least because at least something can be done to help her quality of life. the worst case senario would have been that she would have been told that the surgery wouldn't be worth the benefit, which thankfully wasn't the case. At that point the time would have been 12-18 months before she would have left us.
If she decides to take the surgery route (it's a major procedure with a lengthy recvovery period), it would be scheduled for September 11. She would be in the hospital for two weeks initally, and then she would go home. Judy plans to be there for the operation, and I also plan to take a couple of days off from work to give Judy a break. The decision is ultimately hers, but, I think she will go through with it because she wants to be around as long as possible to see her grandchildren grow up and be a part of their lives (not to mention ours).
Although we are not out of the woods yet, I feel alot better about things now than I did about a week ago. I guess things have a way of working out.
