Poisonous Monkey in CG: About f***ing time!

Well, the teaser pic sorta got the old juices flowing, but here's the true update for you today! Yes, this is my new direction. To be honest, I've just dumped my felt pens and chose the more modern technique: CGing! This new look for my art has been long overdue, and I was even thinking of going into it just after I entered the scene. And let's be honest, that old flet pen technique was uninspiring, old and doing nothing for my art really. I acquired Paint Shop Pro 7 quite a long time ago. I didn't know who to use it (except add text to my art when needed) until I discovered a sort-of dummies tutorial on how to colour fan art. I also received some advice from the likes of Scamwich, sl44n3sh, Brian Richter (of LCD fame) and a few others on how to produce good CGs. Thanks guys! Anyway, here are the finished articles. It may not be the best you've seen in the TMF, but it's the worst I could do!

I dunno... these are good, yes, but it doesn't feel right. Maybe it's just me, but I preferred the Chimp's older style. It just kinda looks like it could be anyone now. Ah well. Guess some things can't be helped.

Canned Ninja: I had an inkling that my transistion to this style may not fare that well with a handful of people. Of course, there are no problems with you preferring my old style. Nothing wrong with that at all. The thing is, I'm doing this for me mainly, as I think my art needs to look more... professional... and more in-your-face, na mean? I don't want my art to look too monotonous and samey if I am gonna draw here for many a year. As what Amnesiac put so well, it's just about removed the weak areas of my old style. Filling the gaps as it were. I don't think I'm going back to my old style, as this one is making my art more tighter and solid.

Understandable. I'm a musician myself, and I know what you mean by changing styles to make it sound/look better.

I wasn't trying to convince you to go back to your old style. Regardless, it's still good. Maybe I just need some time to see how things turn out. I mean, maybe because I've seen your artwork for as long as I hit the tickling scene. But for now, it just doesn't seem right.

Gotta throw something good in here, guys. There are a lot of times when a Mod has to come in to intercede in disagreements, but I felt it was also time to say something supportive when neccesary.

I'd just like to thank you guys for handling a disagreement in opinion so thoughtfully and respectfully. Not just with this particular (and very minor) thing, but with a lot of things that come up in the Artwork Forum. I think it's something about artists (and art lovers) in general that make us more agreeable. We like to talk things out rather than argue.

No big whoop, just wanted to say thanks. It's deserved. This is why I dig the Tickling Art community. 😎

i am well pleased with the Chimp's new style. although it may seem "wrong" at present, it will enable both a clearer lettering (a lot of the speech is actually damn amusing 🙂 ) and also a more normal skin tone. i think that the "wrongness" is just an adjustment in the viewing. altogether, although the old style had much to reccomend it, i am confident Chimp will surpass himself with this new style.
